Why is Scarface so controversial in its reception?
violence, drugs, swearing
>>215021868Majority of people missed the point and it cursed society. I would normally call it subversion, but the film is extremely blatant in critiquing all of this. The one morally good moment tony has is refusing to kill kids, and that's what ruins his empire. it was mostly third worlders and wiggas who gave the film a bad rep by association. if you think any of the film is cool or enviable, you got filtered. its like great gatsby, tony can never become "one of them" he was fucked well before the cool montage played.
>>215022064What a dumb post.
>>215022064>the cool montageI miss movie montages
>>215022080look, here's one of those filtered retards I mentioned
>>215022064It didn't help that Tony has one of the most iconic last stands in history of cinema
>>215021868They claim it had too much violence, but Dirty Harry was also violent as fuck and that predates Scarface by a decade. Perhaps there was a lull in violent films in the late 70s to early 80s?
>>215022130critics didnt like dirty harry either
>>215022130Dirty Harry still gets crap for glorifying vigilantism and police brutality
Majority, of most, of people missed the point and it cursed society. Tony Montana was cursing society itself. I would normally call it subversion, but the film is extremely blatant in critiquing all of this. So, very subversive. The one morally good moment tony has is refusing to kill kids, which is wrong. One should never kill kids. But that's what turned his world upside down. it was mostly third worlders and Nas who gave the film a bad rap by association. Everyone thought it was a brilliant subversive film until the wiggas came, cranking their hogs, with their pants around their ankles. if you think any of the film is cool or enviable, you got a lot of introspection to do. its like great gatsby. its a great work of literature.
>>215021868It's a nigger movie. How many White people over the age of 16 like it?
>>215021868Audiences didn't understand that you weren't supposed to side with Tony
>>215022064>you now remember the video game that starts from an alternate ending where he survives the shootout, and it's all about how awesome building a drug empire and gun violence are
Ah haha remember that time I had one of my goons pushed out of a helicopter? LMAOOO
>>215021868Do terminal cokeheads consume these amounts of cocaine? Are there any video about late-stage cocaine addicts?
>>215022262every nigger wants to be scarface. that's how the CIA got them to sell all that crack.https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=v6dV3fQLzpM
Is this like Starship Troopers where people want to think nobody actually understood the movie when actually everyone did?
>>215022115Majority of wiggas missed the point and I cursed society. I would normally call it cursing, but the film is extremely blatant in subverting all of this. The one morally good moment tony has is fighting bad kids who listen to rap, and that's what gives him the runs. it was mostly third worlders and wiggas who wrote this post. if you think any of the film is cool or enviable, then i recommend the gta video games. its like great gatsby, if great gastby did a bunch of coke and smoked dudes with his guns, very deep
>>215022388>boomers laughed so hard they bled out over this costumed dude
>>215022279Not canon obviously so it doesnt change my point but that was game was based as fuck. shipping coke to the islands while rush rush played is a core memory from my childhood
kino
>>215022456 AND THEN A BLIMP GOES BY
>>215022405No. Please read this post >>215022064
>>215022453Oh yeah I agree the game is ludo of the highest order. I'm just saying it's funny it starts at the big climactic downfall scene and goes "no actually he just went FUCK YOU COCKAROACHES really loudly and escaped and then rebuilt his decadent empire and it was great"
>>215022417Gatsby was a literal bootlegger during prohibition u fucking retard. he gets rich from crime its a big part of the message. Tell me, when is the original scarface based? gatsby is tony if he tried to get out the life and be an actual elite. he cant. idk what the rest of your schizo copy paste is about. blacks were included in third worlders, didnt feel the need to specify
>>215022515Tell me more about this crazy cat Gatsby.
>>215022515The comparison makes zero sense since Gatsby could banter with the upper class just fine, his pedigree was his undoing.Meanwhile Tony is literally a dimwit retard savage that only knows violence.
>>215022567It's funny because Stringer also tries to become a legitimate businessman
>>215022573gatsby gets further because of his charm but reaches the same wall tony would. he is blatantly told he will never be one of them.
>be rich>waaaahhhhh some other rich dudes said I'm not allowed to be in the illuminatiThis is that great American novel I heard so much about?
Tony thought he could control women with his drug empire but all of the women in his life tell him to go fuck himself
>>215021868he wasnt meant to be a role model
Why do they never explain what a chazzer is? Biggest plothole in the movie
Guys, did you know that Tony Montana is really just the Great Gatsby?
>>215022646Hes the one who wants it so bad. did you even read it? He's chasing after a girl he can't have, but he doesn't even want her specifically. he wants the life and class she has. It's mostly a critique of high society and how wasteful it all is. only literal retards get filtered by gatsby. They make you read it in school for this reason. a retard filter
>>215022731So you graduated high school?
>>215022731I see it as a critique of nouveau riche grifters. They should make a new version with crypto millionaires.
>>215022717it follows the 1930s book pretty closely, even the weird sister stuff was in the novel
>>215022802Wait so Wolf of Wall Street is another Gatsby adaptation?
>>215022813Yeah, that book from the 1930's, the Great Gatsby. Know what else it follows pretty closely? Scarface.
>>215022819you've picked the weirdest hill to die on. gatsby was a bootlegging gangster himself
>>215022887Wow, I guess it's a good thing the wiggas and rappas haven't found out about this guy Gatsby.
>>215022279kek that game was GTA if the vulgar humor was cranked up to 11. I used to die laughing anytime the game would just say "YOU'RE FUCKED" or "YOU FUCKED UP" and seeing "+20 balls" every time you killed a guy
>>215022802>trying to rise above your means... le bad>being born rich into a family that was always rich... le goodserf mentalityGatsby's only mistake was not poisoning all the fuckers at his parties. It's what John Galt would have done.
>>215022912they'd have to actually be capable of reading first
>>215022948>he doesn't know
>>215022986You'd be as well pretending to have read the book. the other films are better but too old for the retard audience so still safe
>>215022986Majority of people missed the point and it cursed society. I would normally call it subversion, but the film is extremely blatant in critiquing all of this. The one morally good moment gatsby has is refusing to george b wilson, and that's what ruins his empire. it was mostly third worlders and wiggas who gave the film a bad rep by association. if you think any of the film is cool or enviable, you got filtered. its like scarface, gatsby can never become "one of them" he was fucked well before the cool montage played.
Is The Great Gatsby like Starship Troopers where people want to think nobody actually understood the movie when actually everyone did?
>>215023110Rico is sort of like the Great Gatsby because he's always pining for Carmen. He joined the military just to be with her, but will never be in her class. Instead of the green light, you have the big bugs that shoot light out of their butts.
>>215023110What is this retard coping about. i dont even see error in the post that set him off
>>215021868Apparently third-worlders idolize John Scarface or something. I mentioned liking it in a friend group once and an American jumped to the conclusion that I must be one of those people.I'm just surprised it's such a common occurence over there that it's a safe assumption to make.
>>215023235It's sad. Many of them have never even read the Great Gatsby.
>>215021868Mowing down people with a gun is le fun, goes on longer than James Cagney being the prey
>>215023257You don't need to read the Great Gatsby to not be a nigger.
>>215023348You can't understand Scarface unless you've read the Great Gatsby.
>>215023390Why
>>215023399Read this post carefully, and learn: >>215022064
>>215021868>Man decides he's gonna be big, yuge even, the biggest guy ever in his field>through hell and high water, good times and bad, he manages to pull it off>he is a king of the modern era, a lord of violence and pleasure and wealth and best of all, freedom>he is also alone, empty inside, has no one left he can trust, no one that loves him for who he is but only what he has to offerThe feds gave him exactly what he wanted most. A mercy killing. But normies don't see that, they only see the glamour of money and cocaine, the cool guy saying one-liners and killing his way to the top.
Cocaine is mid.
>>215024227Wow, so deep
>>215024227>The fedsnigga what
>>215021868The only reason anyone even knows this movie exists is because of Al Pacino.
>>215024304Not true. Many fans of the Great Gatsby appreciate the film's creative retelling of the Fitzgerald classic.
>>215024260yeah my bad, I was remembering a MAD magazine spoof of the scene for some reason where the ATF join the hitmen on the assault on Tony's mansion
>>215024130What sent you into such a sperge in that post? he barely even mentions gatsby. I can't even tell if you like or hate scarface from your 20 post meltdown
>>215024341>Mad magazineHow fucking old are you lmfao
>>215024508Due to autism and schizophrenia he perceives you as some ancient enemy he fought in a colossal battle of wits years ago in a similar thread. Ever since then he's been trying to chase that high and is provoking regular posters in Scarface threads, attempting to pinpoint the same dude he flung shit with way back when.
>>215024572damn... I just got called an unc... my life is over...
>>215024613That's kinda sad. I thought he was just intentionally being irrelevant in an attempt to be funny.
>>215022388
>>215021868Why does Tony Montana look like he's slowly falling asleep from an intramuscular sedative injection when he's supposed to be "high on cocaine"?
>>215025863Powerful.
>>215026116Because he's drunk off his ass, extremely sad/depressed about recent events and on other drugs like quaaludes. He literally snorts a large pile of that coke to wake up and start fighting the hit squad
>>215026215Oh, that makes sense. I feel so dumb now
>>215026116that scene is right after he kills manny. it's his "it's over" moment
>>215022064This. When I was a kid and I watched it I thought Tony was a cool gangster. Watching it again as an adult, I can see it's just scene after scene of this sensitive, unsophisticated immigrant mark being bullied. In every interaction Tony has outside of his little unit he's being belittled.>The immigration officers in the opening scene treat him like shit. The cops who arrest him later in the film also treat him like shit.>Omar verbally abused him right up until he gets killed.>Frank Lopez outright admits to Omar that he views Tony as workhorse goon. Whenever Frank interacts with Tony he's totally patronising and disrespectful.>Elmira clearly has zero respect for Tony and interacts with him like she's a bratty teenage girl speaking with a stepfather she hates.>Sosa (the most sophisticated character in the film) is too classy to be openly rude to Tony, but he takes condescending little jabs at him when they converse with each other. As soon as Tony fucks up the assassination job the mask comes off and Sosa calls him a "stupid fucking monkey".>Detective Bernstein calls him a spic and extorts extra stuff out of him (plane tickets to London) just to be an asshole.>Jerry the banker laughs when Tony tries to get tough with him. He basically tells Tony to fuck off while also breaking his balls. Tony's lawyer also talks to him like he's an idiot.>Manny constantly questions his judgment and then fucks his sister behind his back.>Gina does coke, fucks Manny and whores it up with random drug dealers in bathroom stalls despite Tony wanting her to be a respectable woman.>Tony's mom treats him like a worthless thug and throws him out of her houseetc. Aside from his bodyguards everyone treats Tony like a low status peasant. He briefly gets some money but he's never in the "club", and as soon as he fails to serve his purpose the characters with real status (Sosa etc) discard him like garbage.
>>215024508Well, the truth is, the majority of people missed the point of Scarface.
>>215026957they need people like him so they can point their fucking fingers and say that’s the lolcow
>>215024613Wow, posts that make you think.
>>215026957For as much shit as they give Sosa in the movie, he never did anything that was openly wrong to Tony. He actually came off like one of the only people that liked Tony. And he said it was because Tony didn't lie much and would talk honest. Sure Sosa killed Omar, but that was also proven correct since Frank and Omar actually were working with the police and screwing over other drug dealers. Sosa was fully ready to save Tony in the end and prevent him from going to jail which no one else could or would do for Tony. It was Tony that then screwed over Sosa by killing his best assassin, completely botching the hit job, and bringing down law enforcement hard on Sosa and his cohorts. So Sosa was right to be ultra-pissed at him. Should have just let one of his underlings drive the car instead of Tony doing it himself.
>>215022311Cocaine is just like any other hard drug, the more you take the higher your tolerance gets and you need to do more to get high.
>>215026957All this makes a lot of sense if you view the movie as a critique on American capitalism and the American dream. Tony believes in the American dream, but when it actually comes true for him it turns out to all be a lie and none of his success and money actually made him happy and the people who are really im charge still use him and laugh at him. Everything he has in his life, he bought, even his friends and family, and because of that they are all worthless. He has everything but in the end he really has nothing, by the end of the movie he is completely alone and his final stand, as cool as it looks, is just him being delusional and still thinking that his money and power actually means something when it doesn't and he gets shot in the back and dies just like any other man
>>215027469Why are there so many posts itt that read like high schoolers writing lit crit?
>>215025863He died in the nightclub, someone's wearing his skin.
>>215027603Because none of us are great writers I guess so these analyses sound a bit silly because of the poor wording. Still, prove me wrong
>>215021868bisexual man that wants to molest his sister is controversial in most cases.
>>215027822Fair enough, but for one, the majority of people missed the point and it cursed society.
I always get these goombacore movies mixed up and I keep thinking this guy is from Scarface
>>215027867Wait a minute...
>>215022064>Majority of people missed the pointYou mean groids and beaners. Brownoids think Scarface is a masterpiece. They think the lead is cool and admire the lifestyle. Retards, teh lot of them.
Is this a birth of a new copypasta in the same vain of Harry Potter? The dullest franchise of movie franchises? Seriously, each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’s only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody? Just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.>a-at least the books were good though"No!" The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.
>>215027914Carlito's Way is better. Normies don't miss the point by idolizing the criminals, it has a great villain and a great anti-hero
>>215027840>man can’t be friends with another man without wanting to fuck himKek.
>>215028143men can't want to protect their sisters from predators without also wanting to fuck their sister either apparently
>>215028218I thought he was just protective until I noticed a brief clip in the montage where he takes her to shops and watches her try on dresses. He also softly says “Coño” to himself, in a way that’s almost like “Damn”, when seeing her for the first time in Miami.
Imagine a modern version of Scarface where he’s an emotionally manipulative scammer instead of a drug lord
