Two really successful shows. So he was incredibly lucky twice.

Also life in hell was well regarded, though to me it's only kind of passively good in a "sensible chuckle" kind of way. Guess it was subversive and fresh for print comics for Gen X.

Definitely a little bit of both. Very talented and in the right place in the right time. The ass state of TV in the late 80s and the relative newness of Fox (their willingness to not censor the writers) made the Simpsons pop.

The late 80s America was so lame, that Bart's mild rebellion was seen as groundbreaking and edgy

>>215033662
oh ok, so it didn't happened then

Clever guy who surrounded himself with VERY VERY smart people and crucially knew when the right times to let them run wild and when to reign them in were. He put good guardrails on classic era Simpsons that the writers and storyboarders butted up against, but the restrictions really kept the show working.

Yes there is quite literally nothing to this Epstein business and we should all stop talking about it

evil genius who mixed subversiveness with a comic and squared the circle of making it just harmless enough for children to like it and for most parents to let them watch it while simultaneously having a rebellious appeal for teenagers and young adults. it probably has to be explained for todays manchilds watching comics and superhero movies that before the simpsons, no one thought this stuff was for anyone but children

be honest and tell me what do you expect to find if they released the files? What questions are going to be answer?

I'm surprised there isn't more attention on his hatred of Nixon. Aside from the more direct references, he created a loser character so people would associate it with his very distinctive middle name.

If Nixon really was taken down by the CIA, it leads to some awkward questions. This is compounded by the ivy league seeming to be an intelligence recruitment centre, and all of the writers coming from there.

And Groening, of all people, being on the lolita express
>>

Life in hell is garbage. It proves that Matt Groening never had the comedic or artistic chops.
Simpsons was great because of the writers
