>intelectually demanding film
what exactly do you mean with this?

Experimental film such as Upstream Color, The Atrocity Exhibition, Mulholland Drive, The Tree of Life, Persona, On the Silver Globe, Last Year at Marienbad, Dreams That Money Can Buy, The Spirit of the Beehive, The Color of Pomegranates and many others can be hard to comprehend, sometimes because you're in need of outside information to decipher their meaning and other times because the filmmakers are willingly vague and obscure with what's going on.

On the other hand there are movies such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, Blade Runner, The Birds, Starship Troopers, Taxi Driver, Apocalypse Now, Demolition Man and similar films which works on several levels. They're arrguably not demanding since they're allowing the audience to choose their own level of comfort for them to enjoy the entertainment.
