I mean, on the original film Ripley survives thanks of her cunning and even that went off the window the moment she went back for the cat. Sure, she was emotionally compromised so a lapse of rational judgment was understandable plus she is a womanIt´s the same for Sarah Connor on the original Terminator. Luck and cunning were their tools so it had some plausibility. In T2 she had already trained on all kind of military tactics and worked out so in her case her being as tough as Reese was also plausible. In Aliens we also got a more experienced Ripley. Vasquez was also plausible because of her fit look. I can buy her as a badass space marine that can lift a mini gun. But these... these just don´t work.

Even Hercules, Conan the Barbarian, Robin Hood and the like start off in an ordinary world on which they are farmers or slightly above average hunters or fighters.While i understand the male fantasy and the female fantasy may be different i believe there is no valid reason to consider there is a relationship between sex and the hero´s journey. I´m more inclined to believe it´s a generational issue as it´s rather common even for male MCs this generation to be gifted power without going to the trials.
