Do you consider Mad Men to be superior to The Sopranos?
no
>>215044131Why do you judge The Sopranos to be the better show?
If you watch them once The Sopranos has a quality. After 20 rewatches of both The Sopranos becomes very retarded and Mad Men is tenfold more palatable of a watch.
>>215044102The only person I ever knew personally who held Mad Men in "greatest show of all time" esteem was a literal tranny.
>>215044388Interesting. I've loved The Sopranos on rewatch; it becomes funnier IMO. The dialogue is just brilliant. >>215044419That's odd considering there is no trans representation and minorities in general are pushed back down following degrees of success.
>>215044102Haven't watched either, and still no.
>>215044540You should rectify that when you get a chance. What do you consider the best show?
>>215044419I entered this thread because I was on the fence about watching it, now I'm convinced.Trannies have impeccable taste for the most part, in my experience.
>>215044520Yes it more or less becomes a slapstick and a comedy with a shallow depravity and grotesque morbidity sprinkled in. Which makes for a strange watch. Once you expose there is nothing that makes any of the characters tick beyond their deterministic base urges then all that is really left is the exhibition of their buffoonery, eventually that can begin to wane. Mad Men is much more immersive to its environment, place and time, that's what the show is about, it's not so much about any of the characters, though their why's and their how's are weaved in throughout, it has much more varied interchanging character dynamics and so you can kind of view each character as the protagonist on every watch if you really start to focus in or identify with their motives more. And that aside even if you're not, even if you're just passively viewing, its environments and settings are much more pleasing and engaging to the senses, the different domestic settings, homes, relationships, west coast and east, the squalor and the triumphs. the booms and the busts. The Sopranos feels very one note once you fully realise what the show is.
Mad men has a tendency to become a bit too soap opera with its plot lines. There is a lot more optimism though. Some characters in madmen actually do alright for themselves.Sopranos has a lot more going on in thematically but it's depressing as shit.
>>215044629Thanks for elaborating. I agree what you've said about the pros of Mad Men. I think there is a ton going on under the surface of The Sopranos as well, however. I'll be happy to expand if this thread is still up and running after I'm done with my essay on Kant.
>>215044419I entered this thread because I was on the fence about watching the show, now I'm convinced. Trannies tend to have impeccable taste.
>>215044676>there is a ton going on under the surface of The SopranosBeyond narsicisstic self-indulgence? All of the characters do a lot of that to justify why they're nothing less than pieces of shit. What rough beast. I don't find there to be a depth to any of them beyond the performative. I do go along with the thematic considerations and think The Sopranos is probably actually at its strongest when the characters have taken the back seat or have no lines at all and there's some kind of a delirious act that's unfolding. Dream scenes/episodes are all excellent and the general dirges of misery and their lived catholic purgatory schtick.
>>215044102>Do you consider Mad Men to be superior to The Sopranos? In every possible way.Sopranos has a couple great performances and tones of memes but the writing is fucking awful. Mad Men was 10/10 acting/writing.
>>215044102Overall I like it more. I feel like Sopranos has too many leftovers from cheap shitty 90s television. Like at times it feels like someone just replaced the cast of Seinfeld with gangsters.Mad Men is a soap opera with stupid plot points that never go anywhere, but it does feel a bit more "elevated" at times.
>>215045158>stupid plot points that never go anywherethat literally never happens once you dopey midwitted redditor faggot
Slopranos is overrated
>>215044102Definitely. Why else do you think David Chase hired Matthew Weiner?
>>215044576I'd more than likely really enjoy both, just hard to sit down and watch a show these days.
>>215044102i love mad men but don outside of his job is the weakest part of the show and that's quite a lot of it
Mad Men had better consistent quality but never came close to ever hitting The high notes that The Sopranos did
>>215044102>Do you consider Mad Men to be superior to The Sopranos?significantly superior but Sopranos is still very good and much better than more modern slop
>>215044102No, but I love it almost as much and recognise its greatness
>>215044102The Sopranos > Breaking Bad > Mad Men
>>215044388Every time I rewatch Mad Men I hate the female characters more and more. Except for Betty, ironically. Which I hated initially and now like.
>>215047407but mad men has some of the best written female characters out there
>>215044871This made me hate Duck more than the incompetence did.
>>215044102Objectively, in terms of consistency in the quality of the writing and direction, I'd say mad men is clearly betterHowever, Sopranos has the edge of being COOL too, which mad men does not. Sopranos is good and cool (people kill each other) while mad men is only good.
>>215047653Peggy is a Mary Sue and Joan is an evil person and embodiment of toxic femininity that the show refuses to acknowledge as flawed.Megan is alright (although kind of used Don). Anna is cool, Trudy is alright. Faye is fine, what’s her name doctors wife is fine. Sally is a freak
>>215047916Joan is usually wrong in the right way, Pete is usually right in the wrong way, is my takeMeaning Joan says stupid shit constantly with persuasive confidence while Pete speaks the truth while being an obnoxious asshole
>>215044102I like Mad Men, but no, not even close. Sopranos is an elevated soap opera. Mad Men is just a soap opera.
>>215044102I didn't see The Sopranos, but I did see Mad Men and The Sopranos is almost certainly betterMM is a mid soap opera
