Because he is a hypocrite. He specfically did the farm thing as a big tax writeoff, and then the government passed a bunch of laws to tax farmers more so it hurts him, but more importantly it hurts farmers. Farming is one of those jobs where on paper they might look wealthy because they have a lot of assets, but most farms make just enough money to keep themselves going. Farmers will never be truly wealthy. Now Clarkson is wrapping himself in the plight of the average British farmer to use as armor so that he can get his taxes lowered.
