i honestly can't buy any hostile alien story because if you were able to develop technology that could travel the galaxy and possibly even to outside the galaxy you would have had to evolve enough to not use that technology to annihilate your own species first. you would have to had to evolve into a species that inherently values peaceful coexistence. you would use this technology ethically and with discipline. so I can't think of any reason aliens with the capability and desire to visit us would be doing it for hostile reasons.
