you guys said it would flop
>>
>>215048072
it cost $140 million plus marketing, so it needs more than $250 million just to break even
>>
>>215048121
>break even
Who cares?
>>
>>215048121
$140M for a fight movie? Christ, just remake Bloodsport for under $20M
>>
>>215048180
Investors
>>
>>215048072
>makes multiple genuine kinos
>his first real success is far left grifting
gross and pathetic and sad desu
>>
>>215048198
>"investing" into PTA
He doesn't have a great track record.
>>
>>215048225
Add another one to the list
>>
>>215048180
This. No one ever cares with auteurs like PTA. They are so appreciated that they will ALWAYS have investors, many of whom don't care about profit as long as they got to help make great art. I've never heard of Paul having any trouble getting financing. He's never been a director who puts asses in seats. He makes awards movies for smart people.
Invest in Disney or some shit if you want to see profits.
>>
>>215048072
what time is it?
>>
>>215048269
Trust me, people care about 100+ million dollars and he ain’t getting that budget again.
>>
>>215048308
Tool time
>>
surprised to hear TWBB only cost 25 mil, that at least got back 3 times the budget
>>
>>215048225
Every PTA movie up to and including The Master turned profit in DVD sales.
>>
>>215048631
So? The budget range on this puts it at a level where it costs as much as his last four to six movies combined. Its a completely different beast.
>>
>>215048771
>umm let me move the goal post
>>
>>215048121
Budget for prestige movies like these are accounted for under brand development
>>
>>215048782
Making 10 million dollars profit when your movie costs 20 million to make is a good deal. Making 10 million dollars in profit on a 150 million dollar movie means you could've done a hundred different things with the movie and made more with it.
>>
>>215048896
> with the movie
Sorry, *the money
>>
>>215048072
NEVER QUESTION PTA EVER AGAIN

funny half of the budget went to leo
>>
but it needs 1 billion do break even o algo
>>
>>215049118
no new rule of thumb just dropped, gotta make 10x its budget and win at least 10 awards. If it doesn't they'll take PTA out behind a shed and shoot him.
>>
>>215048072
No, I said it wouldn't make money, which it won't. If there was still a DVD market it definitely would be profitable but that's long gone so it will likely break even or register a small loss.
>>
>>215048121
>$250 million just to break even
Actually it would be nearly double that amount. The production budget is reported to be as high as $175 million AND THEN they would have spent another $50-70 million on marketing as well. WB fucking paid Fortnite to promote the movie.
>>
>>215048225
>>"investing" into PTA
Not as strange as it might sound when you find out the current CEO of WB is an old friend of his from the 90s who even produced some of his flicks back then.
>>
>>215048121
It's a good thing this movie has legs then and will run for a good while

100% bullshit considering he had to have The Master funded by a billionaire heiress since no studio would back him.
>>
ONE BILLY AFTER ANOTHER
>>
>>215048121
>>215050156
actually it needs to be make $2 billion just to qualify for bankruptcy
>>
>>215048896
Nta, but investors can have passion projects too. Do you know how many retired and bored people own a bar/restaurant as a hobby, when profit margins are low as hell compared to other ventures? Half of which are barely in the black? But they want to own a bar and they are secure enough in all other financial areas that it doesn't matter. Same with these movies, just more money.
>>
>>215048808
>Budget for prestige movies like these are accounted for under brand development
Just like Joker Folie a Deux, yes.
>>
>>215050236
And The Master was a flop too.
But that didn't stop him, did it? Retard.
>>
>>215048072
And we were right
>>
>>215050273
>But that didn't stop him, did it? Retard.
The budget for Inherent Vice was nearly half what he had for The Master.
>>
>>215048072
>IMAGINE believing anything this shithole says...
>>
>>215050235
>It's a good thing this movie has legs then and will run for a good while
it had a 50% second weekend drop, which is not bad, but not particularly good either.
It can make more money during the awards season when it will probably receive many nominations, but the "Oscar boost" effect on the box office has been very mild in the last few decades compared to let's say the '90s.
I predict a final cume of less than $200 million
>>
>>215048072
It did flop
Look at the budget
>>
>>215050467
I still dont know why it cost so much. It felt like a low budget movie dont remember any insane set pieces, maybe Leo is the price tag lol
>>
>>215050407
And that was a flop too
Then he made Phantom Thread which had a bigger budget than Inherent Vice
>>
>>215050236
Who is this semen demon?
>>
>>215050580
shes been a bad bad girl, all hail saint nick
>>
>>215050508
Leo pocketed $25 million for this iirc
>>
>>215050747
in the future people should start blaming the stars as the reason a movie didn't make money
>>
>>215050571
>Then he made Phantom Thread which had a bigger budget than Inherent Vice
Yes because he had the financial backing of billionaire heiress Megan Ellison again, just like he did with The Master.
>>
>>215050236
How do you go from Fiona Apple to Maya Rudolph? Massive downgrade.
>>
>>215048072
That IS a flop for a big expensive studio picture. This isn't Terrifier
>>
>>215048269
this, billionaires who finance this shit dont give a fuck about the money, just the producing credit, they spend the same amount in a year doing coke in ibiza
>>
>>215050872
him and quantum tarantula took coke together and went with fiona pear to a movie theater and they talked non-stop throughout the whole night about the movies, this gave fiona pineapple the ick and so she left the parent teacher association and he started breeding rudolph the red nose reindeer
>>
>>215048269
>as long as they got to help make great art
These are movie equivalent of shitting paint on a canvas not great art
>>
After you adjust for inflation, it needs $500M to break even.
>>
>>215050947
Apparently PTA threw a chair across the room in the general direction of Fiona since he got a bad review for Magnolia, and that's why she ditched him. But he was probably high on coke at the time too.
>>
>>215050508
I think it's because he's slow and won't allow anything more than a handful of VFX shots in his movies.
>>
>>215050508
They shot the movie in California and apparently the permits and things like that are outrageous. I remember WB asking Todd Phillips to shoot Joker 2 in London instead of LA so they could automatically save something like $12 million bucks, but he refused.
>>
>>215048072
Leo and Del Toro drew me in and I suspect a lot of others as well.
>>
>>215050580
Fiona Apple. But PTA couldn't lay off the coke so he ended up having mixed-race kids with Maya Rudolph instead.
>>
This movie is going to lose over $150 million. There is no billionaire producer in this world who would be ok with losing 150 million no matter how much you faggots try to rationalize it. Hopefully this deranged leftist doesn't get to touch a camera ever again.
