How come Saban or whoever made Power Rangers never tried to adapt Kamen Rider in the US when that show is as big as Super Sentai in Japan? I've never seen Kamen Rider so idk anything. All I know is apparently imagine Power Rangers but they're solo only.
There was an American Kamen Rider show, am I missing something here?
>>215051880There was?
>>215051838>>215051880There were two adaptations of Kamen Rider, OP. One in the 90s adapting Black RX (Awful) and one in the 2000s adapting Ryuki (It was alright).

>>215052867It was, but Americans can't into tokusatu. Dragon Knight was decent.

>>215053636Dumb question, are these shows for children or family?

>>215053737It's capeshit made to sell toys anon, nothing you can't show a 12 year old. If you want specifics i'd compare them to shonen anime, some like Fourze (pic related) are goofier and aimed at a younger audience, while stuff like Kuuga and Shin Kamen Rider is darker and more violent. I think Kuuga is the best starting point if you want to give the series a try.
>>215053737Children, but also families and people who were the children who watched it. Some stuff is slightly more mature than others, and some stuff is very obviously for an older audience but doesn't go too far because it's still Kamen Rider like how >>215053841 says. At the end of the day, it's all for the purpose of selling toys, so anything cool that happens in between that is incidental. If you want the most serious, most gory Kamen Rider, go for Kamen Rider Amazons. Kuuga, Blade, W, and Build are good starting points.
>>215051838There have been two adaptations. Masked Rider in the 90's that had a crossover with PR; and Kamen Rider Dragon Knight in 2009. Masked Rider flopped because it was awful, even compared to MMPR 90's kitsch. Dragon Knight was a Saturday morning show that came way after people stopped watching Saturday morning cartoons. Saban did trademark KR again when they bought back PR and were apparently working on an adaptation of Fourze, but it didn't happen for whatever reason.Tokusatsu is just too much of a niche for the majority of Western audiences. Even the most NEET degenerate anime nerds I've met can't sit through an episode of KR or Sentai. PR was a flash in the pan and Godzilla occasionally makes a dent but that's it.
>>215053737it is the same demographic as Doctor Who or Star Trek
