Like it or hate it, he's a Catonian at heart, and thinks the sanctity of the republic is fundamental to the governance of Rome. Meanwhile pullo didn't give a fuck about any of that shit/was too stupid to understand politics, so the only thing he cared about was whichever side was gonna give him more gold and prostitutes. That kind of viewpoint bores me, have some original thoughts God damn it. The series would have been better if there was a 3rd character who was a hardcore ride or die Cesarean and later Augustonian who viewed the republic as corrupt and decrepit and in need of an autocratic hand to shake things up. Then you'd be able to see the counterbalance between the two viewpoints + pullo who doesn't care and just wants to fuck and drink.
