Is there a single film that captures the feeling of going back to the office on a monday morning?
>>
>>215053644
A sense of purpose when you wake up, a short commute and a pleasant 4-5 hours of sitting by a desk having banter with your co workers?
Sadly no, as people who make movies are the polar opposites of people who work in offices.

One of my colleagues was on “sick leave” for a few weeks. Turns out she was actually completely distraught to the point of suicidal ideation because the publisher that published her YA book series folded, and now the final book in the series won’t be published. Her book seemed to be a decent seller, getting multiple printings and being available in “real” stores. Of course, she still has a day job and the publisher went out if business so it’s probably not very lucrative, but she spent years crafting and promoting that series, taking it to conventions, etc. I feel really bad for her. She’s a completely different person since this announcement. She says self publishing is a “death sentence in the eyes of possible future publishers”, is this accurate?

If the series was that popular she could just take it to another publisher.

How many books does one need to sell to be considered profitable? Even a lot of "hit" books sell under 1000 copies
>>
>>215053756

if she’s actually sold copies and done all the convention shit, she must have the connections to find another publisher

as an aspiring writer, i've heard this too. i think its because publishers retain some exclusive rights so on the minuscule chance the book goes "viral" they get a payday

however i've also heard a theory that NYT bestsellers are often bestsellers because the wealthy fucks who publish their memiors or retarded books just buy a FUCKTON of copies of thier own book

I can't stand physical labour anymore. I'm just 27 and my whole body hurts. I'll just cripple myself for the privilege of earning minimum wage that isn't even enough for me to move out until I die.

The women where I work all treat me like im a baby they have to look after. I'm the only male in the office. They are always giving me food they cooked and whatnot and always coming to sit with me and asking me about my life and if im ok and so on. Its very weird but women always treat me like this. I dunno what I do that makes them behave this way. If its relevant I was mentally abused growing up.

I work in HR and you dont need to actually tell your employer what you are out sick for. You can literally just have the doctor write in the note that they believe you need to be out from work. They dont need to actually say the reason.

Sounds retarded. If anything, the internet has shown that if you're making something people want, you can become wildly successful without having to deal publishers. Why the fuck does she even care about being 'published' when book stores are going out of business every minute? The novelty of seeing a hardcover book? Just about everyone is going to read it digitally on their iPad anyway. Why would you actually WANT to be tied down to a publisher and deal with them leeching off you too?

I happy for her to have a project, but she sounds retarded.
>>
>>215053756
Dod you read her books?
>>
>>215059415
If you're an aspiring writer, don't even think about going through a publisher. Books don't sell, with even best sellers barely selling a few thousand copies. The best outlet for writing in 2025 is just to self publish digitally. Preferably make it a little multimedia with an audio version on Youtube, maybe some still images to go with the audio. Make it something people stumble across and is easily accessible. It's crazy that writers actually think there are people browsing through book stores and buying things because the summary on the back sounds cool. That died with the iPad. Put your own work out there and do it all yourself. It's not just cheaper, easier, and quicker than going through a publisher, you actually get to retain all rights to it so you don't get screwed down the line. There is quite literally no reason to ever go through a publisher. Hell, if even if you want physical copies, you can set up a Patreon and have them printed yourself.

NEET life is fun during the honeymoon phase but mutates into a fucking nightmare that gets harder to escape the longer you go on. People lose all respect for you and look at you like a space alien when they find out you aren't working or in school. It's a constant state of humiliation whenever you interact with others.
