For the last time, the Star Trek transporter does NOT kill you. It translates you to another position with the help of a fictional device called Heisenberg compensator. The very first thing Star Trek explains is that the only way space travel was possible is the invention of matter-energy conversion. You're not duplicated, you're magically relocated in a beam of energy.

All the transporter accidents are ACCIDENTS that are not the fault of the transporter itself. For example, an external energy source amplifies the signal and produces a copy, or redirects the beam to an alternate dimension. That's not the same as a uploading a Pepe C:\Users\Joshua\Pictures\4chan\Pepe

Rest assured, the transporter is totally safe.
>>
You're still getting Ctrl+X'd

>It's safe and effective
Not falling for it Big Transporter shill.
>>
>>215054256
Fuck you Scottie get in it then
>>

How much gold-pressed latinum are they paying you to shill so hard?
>>
>>215054256
You see the pov of a transport from Barclay in tng. There is no interruption of your consciousness.
>>
>>215054429
What was up with Scotty in the Jenolan then? Wouldn't he have been conscious for 100 years?
>>
>>215054476
He put himself into suspended animation.
>>
>>215054571
The transporter interrupted his consciousness when he was inside but he wouldn't notice as it seamlessly continues. Just like with Barcley. They don't experience an interruption, but it's there. And anything can happen there.
>>
>>
>>215054256
what happens if you shit halfway through a transport to a place with no gravity? does the turd maintain momentum or does it just float there? If its half way out your ass, is it cut in half?
>>
>>215054256
Well put, OP. Fuck those whiny faggots and their doomy interpretation of a utopian post scarcity society
>>
>>215054429
It's a hallucination like a near death experience. Except a real death experience. The people pulled out were copies recreated from the computer memory. All you have to do is have a transporter that doesn't break down your body, like a wormhole creator.
>>
You can't destroy matter or energy. That's all you need to know.
>>
>>215054256
What if there’s a fly with you while in the transporter?
>>
The transporter kills you and creates an exact copy of you that thinks it's you.

Every other interpretation is retarded.
>>

The lore says the exact opposite.

>an external energy source amplifies the signal and produces a copy
This would not be possible if the machine merely "transported" you. If I get in a really fast car, there is no risk of someone slapping a rocket engine to the back which somehow causes a duplicate version of myself to be made.

The only explanation is that the "transport buffer" could be trivially used to recreate yourself infinite times.

Know how the transporter SHOULD have worked? Captain Picard gets in the transporter, and he beams a COPY down to the planet. The copy then goes about his business as if he's the real Picard, and then slowly returns to the ship in a shuttle, or dies in a fiery explosion with the rest of the planet.

Using the transporter to constantly kill yourself and make copies that think they're you is completely inhumane.

The transporter chief can detect it and remove it mid transit, like they did with the weapon fire in that Data episode with the jewish toy collector
>>

Why do they have a toilet on the bridge when it would make more sense to just use a teleporter to evacuate your bowels, Hogwarts style?
>>

The transporter isn't advanced enough to differentiate your poo in your body from the shit you post.

This but unironically. Its a literally just an old tv show.

>>215054256
Is there any episode where they build like an instant army out of one person? Or anything similar to that at all? If not it doesnt make any sense that its just a clone machine but only forced to be used as a morally horrible copy and kill machine.
>>
>>215054256
>so we are just gonna turn your body into energy then use that energy to re-build it somewhere else.

>Implying actual NDEs are hallucinations
there's a difference between a jesus-meeting, heaven-ascending 'NDE' where the brain is just tripping on its own DMT, and an actual NDE where the patient is braindead and recalls conscious experience from time during their brain death

>>215056677
In Voyager a race called the Hirogen are given holodeck technology that allows them to replicate sentient victims that they can hunt and murder forever.

It's meant to be a weird ethical problem for any sort of crime. Do you give a race that cannot stop murdering the ability to simulate murder in the hopes that they cease to perform real murder? You can replace murder with any other crime in this question.
>>
>>215056708
well the energy is the same, so if it was distributed with the energy being in the same spots it woould be you.. but if your brain was made out of your leg then it wouldn't..

Pretty much every character on a starship in Star Trek is on their 2nd-through-X thousandth iteration. Spooky show. Does the soul follow to the new body?

can you imagine if you were on the away team with Troi and there was some kind of inexplicable malfunction that they weren't able to replicate to reverse the process and you'd accidentally been switched into Diana's body and had to live like that for the rest of your life haha that'd suck i'd hate that lol

Don't care, I'm still talking the shuttle.

>>215054256
The only way a transporter wouldn't kill you would be if it took all your current atoms, turned them into energy (subatomic particles), then somehow used the exact same subatomic particles from each given atom to reconstruct the exact same original atom, then assemble those atoms back into the same original body, then fire it up with the exact same nerve impulses.
I don't think it does that.

Ok but have they ever did an episode which dealt with the possibility of 2 copies of one person existing due to the transporter?

>>

>>
>>215054256
We all know the truth. Transporters do not transport. A clone is created at the landing spot and the person “traveling” is simultaneously vaporized.
>>
>>215054256
>magically relocated
And now we see why "logic" threads exist!
>>
>>215060429
This wasn't always the lore. Then they did that episode where Riker was cloned and it ruined the sort of spotlight wormhole explanation it was. It became death and cloning.
>>
>>215057854
That makes zero sense.
For the transporter beam to be refracted in such a way that two human being materialize, it would imply that NEITHER are the original and that even in cases without transporter duplication, the human materialized on the other end is not "original" but a recreation.

>wormholes
As "stationary" a wormhole looks in the quadrillions of measurement distance between things in space, a planet isn't stationary; it's traveling at wildly fast speeds in orbit around a star. That wormhole isn't gonna do well taking a couple seconds to transport matter from one area to another.

It's kind of another "time travel" gimmick that rarely gets addressed;
>if I travel back in time 600 years
>...is Planet Earth going to be in the EXACT SAME position of orbit?
>Won't I just... appear in the middle of space and explode?

The transporter ensures a linear and singular existence of your being.
My self, my mind, is unchanged by the experience. Sleeping has more ego death than being transported.
You are nothing more than the consciousness being propogated by your physical body.
>>
>>215054256
Remember that episode where Geordi and Ro can pass through matter and no one can see them? This what the transporter does. It moves people through matter and through space. You are not killed, you are aware through the entire event.

>>215061166
Wow, what a great point, I don't know why you're making it, no one said anything was stationary. Wormholes don't exist, so in fiction they can do whatever you want.

Also, Earth will never be in the same exact position of orbit ever. Earth is traveling around the sun and the sun is traveling through space. Earth has never been in the same place twice.

Star Trek mankind hasn't been at war for centuries so they forgot how to wage it properly.

There's some technobabble about multiple target aquisition in DS9 when Kira was explaining the Type III phaser rifle to Ziyal that implied Starfleet phasers effectively had an aimbot built in. Though it apparently doesn't work when Worf aims at Ferengi.

But for me it's the dustbuster from the early TNG seasons.

>>
>>215054256
Yes it absolutely fucking does. And what's more you and the writers are goddamn idiots. The transporter is literally based on scientific theory in the real world. And that scientific theory is literally based on killing you and reassembling your body somewhere else. Let me make this easy for you. We have a way to convert matter into energy right now. It's called vaporization, at least in part. Obviously to fully turn your entire body into energy we have to go a lot hotter. I can vaporize your ass right now. Now hypothetically speaking if I could reassemble your vapor back into what appears to be the same body and keep that body alive did I kill you or not? The answer is clearly that yes I did kill you. So is what I reassembled you? Nope.
>>
>>215055452

>>
>>215056759
The problem with what you're saying is that this means the spirit is a real phenomenon in Star Trek. Ironically, this would be the only possible way to square the circle of claiming that you don't kill someone with a transporter because the body, while not the original and a copy created from the original components is still inhabited by the same soul and therefore is the same person with a slightly newer version of their own body.
