Sean Penn's got the best supporting Oscar in his pocket
>that fucking walk
>that fucking haircut
>I AM A CHRISTMAS ADVENTURER!!!!
>that shot at the end when they wheel his corpse out, legs up
Wtf was the deal with the masonic society? That whole subplot was completely bizarre to me, what was PTA going for with it? Is it lifted directly from Pynchon?

Quirky secret societies is a trademark Pynchon element so obviously a reference to that

I think the point of it was to act as a way to jump start the plot and justify why Lockjaw would come looking for Willa, and to add an extra wildcard element (the assassin guy) seperate to the paramilitary stuff

The main thematic idea for the CAC is that Lockjaw, while on the surface is at the top of the visible military industrial complex hierarchy, actually is subservient to the hierarchy of secretive billionaires who operate things behind the scenes, and forces him to confront his hypocrisy (a white supremacist who loves black girls) and choose what really matters to him

>spoiler
That much was obvious, I was wondering if I had missed anything else. Loved how WASP-coded and corny their meeting room and behaviour was

It's also a way of showing that Lockjaw desires some kind of recognition/appreciation but he is so deeply entrenched in his prideful masculine-chauvinistic persona and environment that he goes out looking for the good graces of weird-ass secret societies instead of starting a family or helping others or making friends. He desperately wants some kind of home or paternal system to fill the void in his life, much like how young alt-righters parasocially cling to online talking heads like the recently deceased Charlie Kirk or Joe Rogan or whoever. It's peak fatherless behavior stemming from a deep and gnawing sense of insecurity and shame
