Even when they come around to play the game, they basically never go in blind and know every "optimal" way to play them already, and then brag about how fast they beat this and that. vidya is basically books now, people buy them but rarely ever read them.

It's just an autistic ultra niche stuff and it only became popular lately exactly because zoomers love to watch other people video games, and speedruning is very much a part of that. Basically everything is trendy for a week and if you don't participate in the hype at that moment all the quality of a product/vidya is lost. Before as a kid I almost never played and bought a game on release, only when you REALLY liked something and anticipated it. Mostly you just went to the store and picked up what looked interesting or what a close irl friend told you is good. Now it's all internet twitter hype bullshit.
