Why was As Above So Below so criminally underrated?
>>
Because no one expects much from found footage.

France is scary enough without being upside down

That main chick was a hottie
>>
found footage is shit

The only reason Blair witch was successful was because they successfully marketed it as actually real found footage

honestly the director generally doesn't seem that good anyway from what i saw in the poughkeepsie tapes
>>
Its not its just peak midwit bait like Tool and True Detective
>>
i remember there was no clear explanation
>>
It's basically a Lara Croft movie with a spooky flavor.

The setting is cool

Because of the mind-numbingly stupid plot twist that the philosophers stone (as allegorical, that is, purely symbological a concept as there's ever been) is in the film a literal chunk of rock that you can scrape shards off of in order to achieve miraculous healing abilities, among other things.
Also, it's a haunted house film underground that never settles upon a single linear concept but is instead a little of this, a little of that, but when all is said & done ends up being a whole lot of nothing.
Other than a waste of time.
To put it another way, it's fine until you realize that the film's creators had not a fucking clue what it was actually supposed to be, hence why they throw literally every haunted house trope at the viewer in hopes that something might stick.
Only, it doesn't.
With that said, kino ending.
Though there are far better found footage movies out there & this one isn't it.
