Can we safely admit he's one of the most overrated filmmakers of all time?

True true. Michael Bay is the real GOAT
>>
>>215069979

No, because he’s not.
>>
no almost all of his movies are great
>>
>>215069979
Nah he's accurately rated.

>>215070034
Bay is under-rated.

not only are his movies not overrated, its more fascinating how they increased in complexity with regards to them analyzing the human condition with each movie culminating in Eyes Wide Shut and if he had lived, A.I Artificial Intelligence. This includes everything from war, sexuality, the supernatural, government corruption, and secret societies. Almost in that order, Spartacus is kind of a hiccup since he didnt have creative control over it.
>>
>>215069979
Sure. He's very boring. He's the jewish boomer version of Alex Garland.
>>
>>215069979
I agree. Only one of his flicks that didn't put me to sleep was Dr. Strangelove.
>>
>>215070147
>the human condition
LMAO
>>
>>215069979
he's probably the goat desu
>>
>>215069979
Yes, certainly. He's not even top 20.
>>
>>215069979
Kill yourself.
>>
>>215069979
Orson Welles, he's great.
>>
>>215069979
I obsess over him like Alex obsessed over Beethoven.

>>215069979
All filmmakers are overrated. Kubrick is no exception.
>>
>>215070034
Honestly, Michael Bay is kino compared to the Marvel slop.
>>
>>215070147
You are obviously a teenager. Kubrick says nothing profound about 'the human condition', instead he just recycles the cliched ideas of the novels he reads. The apparent diversity of subject matter you describe is really just a diversity of genre.
>>
>>215070840
That's pathetic. Beethoven is one of the greatest geniuses to ever live, Kubrick is just a movie director. And yes, cinema is a lower form of art than music.
>>
>>215070950
Kubrick is the Mozart of kino.
>>
>>215069979
Fuck off retard
>>
>>215070984
There's a lot, and I mean really A LOT, of directors more worthy of that title than Kubrick.
>>
Lolita is elite. Don't @ me, OP.
>>
>>215071028
You're giving me Salieri vibes, Tarantino.

Kubrick is the goat because all his movies are satires of the retarded human race.
>>
>>215070950
How can cinema be a "lower art form than music" when cinema literally INCLUDES MUSIC, among other arts like sculpture and animation? Cinema is basically all art forms in one.
>>
>>215070950
cinema is literally the ultimate art form
>>
>>215072270
>>215072675
Anons, filming a Michelangelo sculpture does not then make the film of equal worth to the Michelangelo sculpture. It is apparent that cinema's unique value as a medium is relatively scant when compared with the traditional arts. And artworks that were originally intended to be appreciated on their own are not then made superior by combing them with an artwork from another artform. Playing a Beethoven symphony while looking at a Michelangelo sculpture makes neither the Beethoven symphony nor the Michelangelo sculpture superior. To achieve that combination of mutual enrichment, the artforms have to be conceived together, such as in Greek Tragedy or the highest expressions of opera, but film has entirely failed at reaching that level since the individual artforms used in cinema (music, writing, painterly composition, etc.) are never valuable as artworks in themselves. Cinema is the shitty melting pot that lowers the value of every artform it uses just to create its unique effect.
>>
>>215069979
No. He is the greatest to ever do it except for maybe Leone or Lynch.
>>
>>215072270
Yes, funny how film seemed to always need the enhancement of music (even during the so-called "silent era"), yet music has been enjoyed for entire millenias without the "enhancement" of film. Likewise with the other art forms you mentioned; because a newer art form uses the older ones as a crutch, you mistakenly believe it to be the teleological evolution of those art forms.

in 1000 years Star Wars will be revered like Michelangelo

What do you think Opera is? Kabuki theater? Puppet shows? Dancing?
>>
>>215069979
You sound retarded. Maybe fuck off?
>>
>>215073173
No. First, Disney managed to kill that legacy. Second, it was always kid slop. Once the boomer worldview dies, and with it its obsession with Nazis and self-expression as the ultimate good, Star Wars becomes just another children story. In other words, Star Wars will have no appeal to a civilization not our own
>>
>>215069979
No, not under any circumstances. If anything he's still underrated
>>
>>215074616
star wars is high art, and if you lived for 1000 years you'd see it.
>>
>>215069979
Yes, if for no other reason than because all of his notable films were adapted from books.

He was a technician with great taste, not an auteur.
>>
>>215069979
I think he's pretty fairly rated desu.
>>
>>215073173
it's a kids flick
>>
>>215070147
>Spartacus is kind of a hiccup
But by far the most entertaining film he ever made.
>>
>>215074751
It won't survive that long, in 1000 years the only surviving media will be those pressed into clay or carved into stone. The epic of Gilgamesh will outlast anything created today.
>>
>>215069979
Yes.
>>
>>215074855
Why do you exist?
>>
>>215069979
he overrated his audience's interpretation of his films, like when clockwork inspired copycat crimes and he had the film pulled lel. but then that might've been the point of the propaganda since he was part of the elite.
>>
>>215069979
No, contrarian. We cannot "admit" that. Kill yourself.
>>
>>215069979
i doisagree, I quite liked Full Metal Alchemist.
>>
>>215077517
*disagree, but whatever.
>>
>>215069979
He’s actual underrated because he is not credited for the moon landings
