The climax was really tense in this one but it feels way more old Hollywood morality tale in style. Dr Strangelove has that same tense ending but it's a more modern feeling, and the tension is even more intense because it's overlaid with comedy

The Day After.
The whole attack segment where a dude is wandering in a field next to horses, the calm before the storm, is especially eerie.

Great film OP I love Sidney Lumet great director. The Hill (1965) is another one of his greats and you might find the same feeling of dread/horror at certain points

It's true though. The scene where Mandrake is trying to get the soldier to get some change from the coke machine is more intense than anything in Fail Safe
