Mierda does mean shit. However, the way we use "suj. de mierda" is best translated as "fucking suj.". Translation can be literal but there are plenty of times when it doesn't work. If you translated "fucking shit" to Spanish literally it'd be "follando/cogiendo mierda", which means to have sex with shit.
