This is from an outside perspective because I didn't watch it. But just by observation it seemed like it was already going to shit by the time some little british girl shanked the big bad guy and that was the death blow. Leading up to it the fandom went from everyone everywhere was watching it (hype felt like early seasons of Sopranos) to the cool thing suddenly being cringe to have watch parties for. I'm guessing the people going viral from these watch parties were people normies didn't want to be associated with. The time frame of when the show was ending also seemed to coincide with the rise in popularity (outside of a couple established ones) of youtube critics/hate watching.

So when he does show up, he's gonna look like an asspull character that came out of nowhere. You can't just introduce the brother of the king in season fucking three.
HotD S1 won back all of the good will lost by the ending of GoT. It also mogged it's competitor in Rings of Power.S2 was significantly worse than GoT S8, it was the absolute worst thing to come out of the franchise and it's a shame because there are still great characters and actors there for them to work with but they just refused to use them. Now fast forward to the final battle. Instead of Jon killing the Great Evil, which the story has been building up to all along, they have his little sister, Arya do it. Arya had NO BUILD UP for that role and her plotline had NOTHING to do with fighting this great evil.
