I think she was acceptable but the argument is she is uniquely worse acting wise than many Bond girls and putting her nest to arguably the best female villain of the series makes her look even worse.

They need the big twist with the "main" girl tirning out to be evil, so they need another girl for 007 to end up with, but she isn't given the screen time or dramatic weight necessary to challenge the evil girl. So she comes across as a bit lame. It's not Denise's fault.It's always bad to have two Bond girls where you don't make it 100% clear which one is the main one. Golden Gun did this with Maud Adams & Britt E. A couple of others as well.
