Ridiculously large budget. Marketed as a comedy when its really more of a scifi adventure. Its not that bad of a movie they just spent a ridiculous amount of money on it so it destroyed the career of everyone connected to it.

The Director had done Tremors and City Slickers in the early 90s (both worth a watch BTW) and then got damned to directing TV christmas movies for the Hallmark channel in the wake of the Pluto Nash disaster. Funny that the guy who directed Tremors an incredibly successful movie made on an incredibly small budget also directed Pluto Nash an absolute disaster on a ridiculously large budget. The producers and studio execs that threw money at the project are the real villains.

He's not a superhero. He's a guy who owns a nightclub on the moon who's getting pressured into selling his club by the mob.

Its a weird premise for a movie. The fact that no one really knows what its about is a testament to how bad its marketing was.
