The main character is tempted and pushed beyond his limits to a point where he imagines all sorts of scenarios where he could betray his integrity. However, he never does, at least not until the end when he changes the grade on the student's paper. At that point, I believe the Coens are intentionally leaving the ending vague in order to ask the audience the same question that is posed to Larry throughout the whole film: is the cat dead or not? Is Larry and his son, dead or not? I think it's fairly clever and fits in with the rest of the themes explored throughout the movie. If you think the movie's still boring, well, I can't really change your mind on that. But for what it is, I think it's a comforting film for people who reach a low point in life and start questioning their own beliefs about their place in the universe. The ending tells us that while being a good person is the ultimately harder choice instead of being corrupt, it's still worth it whether you believe in God or not, because His punishment is never going to be rational or expected. The only certainty is that if things can get worse, they WILL. So don't get caught up in the opinions of what you think you "deserve". Don't even be good because you expect a reward. Just be good.

Road to Perdition feels so much like a Coen Bros. movie but somehow it's not. The pitch perfect direction and cinematography, the "code" that someone breaks, the "desk scenes," the indifference of the universe, the inhuman killer.

He has on the surface a normal American life but he is deeply unsatisfied with what that actually means and all of the complications it involves and the unfairness in his life. He has a family and a house and a normal job but despite checking all of the boxes nothing seems to happen, just like Solomon building his estate and then finding no satisfaction it. There's no finality or satisfaction he never "makes it". He keeps asking for a bigger reason why he experiences all of this perceived injustice as if it's happening for a reason but the answer has been there the whole time, and it's simply that this is what life is. A man's duty is to attend to his work and his duties and obey the lord, simple as. God is not paying special attention to him good or bad he is just failing at his duties and also trying to control things that he can't really.The tornado is obviously referencing the repetitive phrase used in Ecclesiastes that is commonly translated to "chasing after the wind". The priest in Ecclesiastes constantly compare all the evils in life to the coming and going of the wind and warns that dwelling on it and trying to pursue wisdom is vanity and distracts from the important things a man should actually focus on. You can't control tornadoes but you can control say what you do at your job or how you respond to a reminder that you will die. Ecclesiastes also ends with a reminder that everything will die before the author wraps it up abruptly.

I despise jewslop but this movie was pretty good. Its a different type of history, straight from the Bible mind you. The ending is very kino, the kid watching the storm approaching and nobody else seemed to notice it.
