>dude what if we made the most boring dogshit ever haha>but actually it's super deep because...uh...life is uncertain...or something
incredibly filtered. embarrassing.
I didn't understand the point about the goy's teeth
>>215093212Stick to Tarantino, buddy. Coen brothers sound a bit too steep for you.
>>215093298Go ahead and explain this film's profound depth then please. Why should it be considered one of the greatest films ever made?
t. someone who's wife got fucked by Sy Ableman
>>215093310its an absurd story with an absurd reaction and no conclusion. If it frustrated you then you understood it.
>>215093400I wouldn't consider it close to being one of the greatest films ever made, but as someone who's seen it multiple times, I genuinely believe it's supposed to be a modern retelling of the Book of Job. The main character is tempted and pushed beyond his limits to a point where he imagines all sorts of scenarios where he could betray his integrity. However, he never does, at least not until the end when he changes the grade on the student's paper. At that point, I believe the Coens are intentionally leaving the ending vague in order to ask the audience the same question that is posed to Larry throughout the whole film: is the cat dead or not? Is Larry and his son, dead or not? I think it's fairly clever and fits in with the rest of the themes explored throughout the movie. If you think the movie's still boring, well, I can't really change your mind on that. But for what it is, I think it's a comforting film for people who reach a low point in life and start questioning their own beliefs about their place in the universe. The ending tells us that while being a good person is the ultimately harder choice instead of being corrupt, it's still worth it whether you believe in God or not, because His punishment is never going to be rational or expected. The only certainty is that if things can get worse, they WILL. So don't get caught up in the opinions of what you think you "deserve". Don't even be good because you expect a reward. Just be good.
>>215093629In other words, life is gonna fuck you whether you're good or bad. But the consequences on average will turn out much worse for you if you choose to be bad. So don't worry about being a "serious man" in the eyes of your peers. Just do the best you can.
>>215093629>>215093726He spies on his nude neighbour and fantasizes about pre-marital sex, and yet is hardly punished for either acts. Why the punishment at the end? Why punish the child? Why is any of this considered profound?
>>215093933Thoughts and fantasies are not the same as actions.
>>215093212>boringHow can people find this boring? What do you find stimulating?
>>215094039Spying/oogling is not a thought.
>>215094052OP here, I mainly watch gay porn. Only thinking about being covered in massive loads can I hold my attention.
I feel like the Coens have so many movies that follow similar themes of somebody going against their own code and paying the ultimate price. No Country, Miller's Crossing, A Serious Man, Burn After Reading, etc
>>215094459>Burn After ReadingWho? Clooney?
>>215093298fpbpOP is either too young to get it or retarded and needs to go back
Receive with simplicity everything that happens to you.
>>215094987this guy
>>215094459Of what use was the code?
>>215093298It really is embarrassing. OP is lucky this shitshack is anonymous.
Road to Perdition feels so much like a Coen Bros. movie but somehow it's not. The pitch perfect direction and cinematography, the "code" that someone breaks, the "desk scenes," the indifference of the universe, the inhuman killer.
>>215093212The goy's teeth and the scenes involving Sy Ableman were good, everything else not so much
>>215094459i said this in another thread and some anon said i was a schizo for thinking that
BUT I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING
>>215095585
>>215094459>somebody going against their own code and paying the ultimate pricethe point of A Serious Man was that Larry had no code and didn't try to help himself even when his world was crumbling around him
>>215095688he broke his code when he decided to take the bribe and change the grade. the second he does he immediately gets a concerning call about his tests with a doctor and his son is about to get killed
>>215095730accept the mystery
>>215093629I get more Ecclesiastes than Job. Job is a trial. The point of the movie is this guy is NOT on trial. He has on the surface a normal American life but he is deeply unsatisfied with what that actually means and all of the complications it involves and the unfairness in his life. He has a family and a house and a normal job but despite checking all of the boxes nothing seems to happen, just like Solomon building his estate and then finding no satisfaction it. There's no finality or satisfaction he never "makes it". He keeps asking for a bigger reason why he experiences all of this perceived injustice as if it's happening for a reason but the answer has been there the whole time, and it's simply that this is what life is. A man's duty is to attend to his work and his duties and obey the lord, simple as. God is not paying special attention to him good or bad he is just failing at his duties and also trying to control things that he can't really. The tornado is obviously referencing the repetitive phrase used in Ecclesiastes that is commonly translated to "chasing after the wind". The priest in Ecclesiastes constantly compare all the evils in life to the coming and going of the wind and warns that dwelling on it and trying to pursue wisdom is vanity and distracts from the important things a man should actually focus on. You can't control tornadoes but you can control say what you do at your job or how you respond to a reminder that you will die. Ecclesiastes also ends with a reminder that everything will die before the author wraps it up abruptly.
>>215095585HASHEM HASN'T GIVEN ME SHIT
I FUCKED YOUR WIFE, LARRY
>>215093212You failed to accept the mystery. Sign of low intelligence.
This is defamation. Ground for lawsuit
>>215097060uh, passing grade
>>215097060>>215097143>>215095757funny that this actor felt bad for playing the role in Fargo that he caught a lot of shit for playing a "stereotype" but then later played this guy. Scorsese and Ebert praising his character in Fargo really pulled him out of it
>>215097255That’s the same guy? I had no idea
>>215093212Good thing this place is anonymous. You ought to be ashamed of yourself, moron.Just look at that parking lot.
>>215097308He was on early Mad TV too.
>>215097336These … autos
>>215093933It's *extra-marital sex. He's already married.
>>215093212I loved the opening sequence. Stuff like that is cool. I appreciate the Coens' sense of history. I loved them for all their period pieces, especially Buster Scruggs. And Hudsucker Proxy too.
>>215097399And Hail, Caesar!
>>215093933He has a dream about boning Mrs. Samsky it’s not like he can control it
the Jolly Roger is the appropriate course of action
>>215093212Is this the most Jewish film ever made? I couldn't even finish it.
>>215097498It’s universal in its themes
>>215093212I just got done watching mid90s and now I'm watching a movie called Heathers. mid90s is worth watching, although this Heathers movie i'm finding kind of dumb and I'm about to probably switch to a different movie. I guess they're supposed to start killing the popular kids or something? idunno but its pretty stupid and boring so far and not funny at all. Any one have any suggestions?
>>215097379>He's already married. Can you really say that after Sy Ableman has fucked your wife?
>>215097589>implying it was about whoopsie-doopsie
>>215093212>what if falling down but the lead is jewish this was absolute kino
>>215093212It was kinda dogshit, yeah. The poster reminds me of pic related.
>>215093629>>215095776I think pontificating about the movie is the trap you're supposed to fall into. The whole movie is just the goys teeth. It's more interesting as a catalog of jewish neuroticism. If you've ever worked or lived around a nervous jewish guy the various scenes in this movie are what he's worried about basically 90% of the time.
i liked how they used goyim and goy to make sure it was clear they were calling whites cattle
I despise jewslop but this movie was pretty good. Its a different type of history, straight from the Bible mind you. The ending is very kino, the kid watching the storm approaching and nobody else seemed to notice it.
>>215093212the editing in this movie is just masterful, particularly the second rabbi scene; this is the best coen for me desu
is this the one about dude building a shelter?
>>215098273You’re thinking of A Serious Shelter
>>215098308right right . good movie .
>>215093629>where he could betray his integrity. However, he never does, at least not until the endHow do you get>leaving the ending vagueIn the next sentence?>is the cat dead or not? Is Larry and his son, dead or not? What in the fuck, the movie is about a guy having a faith crisis>In other words, life is gonna fuck you whether you're good or bad. But the consequences on average will turn out much worse for you if you choose to be bad. You've taken God out of the story completely.>>215095776>that this is what life isIf God and life is random chaos why bother doing the right thing?>just failing at his dutiesHe was doing everything right until the end.>God is not paying special attention to himHe was, that's what the whole story was about, he was on trial. It may as well have been God that called him on the phone.
