I was pleasantly surprised by this. It was consistently funny and always had me guessing where it would go.
>and always had me guessing where it would goThat's not hard to do with post-lolsorandom lolsorandom humor
>>215096590>lolsorandomI was talking more about the plot/story arc. The humor was very dry and cringe-inducing throughout, which was consistently funny given Rudd, Robinson, and the minor characters played well off each other.I thought this was going to be some dumb shit like that too going by the trailer but I watched it earlier and was pleasantly surprised.
It was 4/10 for meThe best scene is when he trips off the toad venom and just goes to subway
>>215096638I watched it and was consistently put off by Robinson's inability to act, which is something that happens in I Think You Should Leave sketches, but not the extent of a full length filmA benefit of the typical ITYSL sketch is that there's often one or two psychotically weird characters, but that just didn't work for me when everyone else played it straight
>>215096668>I've got to go get some rolos and red bull
>>215096568Good movie with some really funny moments, the funniest being The Hulk bit, but the final act was stupid. Shouldn't have been an A24 movie, that's what ruined it. would have been better off if it leaned more towards comedy rather than dark comedy.6/10
>>215096568I was hoping/expecting it to commit to a creepier vibe so I felt a bit daisy-chained/lead on by a series of bits rather than a whole movie. If I went in with sillier expectations maybe I'd have enjoyed it more since ITYSL gets some laughs out of me.The bits in ITYSL benefits from being very 'in-and-out'. You're pulled into the scenario, the world, the punchline hits you, and you're out and off to next world/office/gameshow/etc. So while a bit might get a 'sequel' so-to-speak in ITYSL there's obviously the understanding that each bit/sketch is isolated with no obligation to form any continuity.Friendship lacks that, each bit, every weird interaction, takes place in the same set, the same world. So as the punchlines stack up I couldn't help but feel "Ok, where's this all going? When does he REALLY break down? When does it get irredeemably creepy?"Again, if I'd went in to it expecting ITYSL then I might've had more of a laugh but for now I didn't find it especially hilarious. It feels as though the movie might be having a tough time deciding between 'Tim Robinson plays a guy surrounded by serious people' vs 'Tim Robinson himself invades a serious movie/world with serious people'.
>>215096568Same here. I enjoyed the movie despite how awkward it was at times.
>>215098143How would a different studio releasing it make it any different? What the fuck ruined it? Do you think the filmmakers wanted to make it somewhere else? I'm pretty sure the writer/director did what HE wanted. So you're dumb.
>>215098143It's not really even dark enough to be considered a Dark Comedy
The Chair Company should be a Tim rabbit hole.
