No Dan O'Bannon = Not an Alien Movie
>muh Jim Camaroooon
>muh Assrmbly Cut!!!
>muh Ridley Scooter!
All just fanfic.
>>
>>215097572
i mean, dan was a great guy but he was opposed to giger's iconic xenomorph design. alien was 100% a team effort.
>>
>>215097605
Sorry dude. Tv enjoyers know what movie fans do not:
Writer > everything else
>>
>>215097605
This. Also Dan O'Bannon was a very sick and troubled man and he died an early death. He took the story of Alien from a 50's scifi movie and a comicbook.

Art > artist

Shakespeare got the idea for Hamlet from a Scandanavian epic called Amlut. What's your point?

Yeah that's cool and all but Aliens is still the better film, and Cameron's a much better director.

How many truly awful films has Cameron made compared to Ridley?
It makes it even worse that just 2 of Ridley's awful movies are part of the Alien franchise.
LOL
>>
>>215097738
>Planet of the Vampires
A watched that a few weeks ago. It wasn't bad for an Italian movie and very colourful.
>>
>>215097790
Eyetallyhun movies are a real gold mine. Past the Dollars and the Argentos theres a lot there.
>>
>>215097761
>directly following a commercial venture with the people who own the property
BAD
>ripping off other movie makers because you think you can get away with it
GOOD

This is your brain on dumpsterjuice.

>Yeah that's cool and all but Aliens is still the better film,
>all the alien sfx look like plastic where they once looked like flesh
>the realistic dialogue has turned into cartoon one liners

this is not true. please don't disparage aliens just because you prefer alien
>>

Shakespeare didn't exist.

>Writer > everything else
This may be true for TV but not for film. A great movie director can make even an average script interesting. Compare 12 Angry Men directed by Sidney Lumet (1957) vs William Friedkin (1997). Or Murder On The Orient Express directed by Lumet again (1974) vs Kenneth Branagh (2017). The same exact script but Lumet's movies are far superior compared to Friedkin's or Branagh's.
>>
>>215097914
Virtually every element of Amlut is in Hamlet.
By your logic Shakespeare is a thief.
Its omay to admit you're wrong fren.
>>
>>215097915
Yes it is.
The eggs look thin and stiff. The aliens look plastic and insectoid.
>>
>>215097989
Lol you're brown
>>
>>215097668
>>215097738
Alien (formerly Star Beast, formerly Memory) is a mosaic of a lot of horror/scifi stuff that O'Bannon liked
>>
>>215098018
>Murder On The Orient Express directed by Lumet again (1974) vs Kenneth Branagh (2017)
I actually saw both and compared them. Albert Finney was a bit over the top, but the 1974 version is definitely the better version. In the 1974 version the actors actually act while in the 2017 version you have the impression it's just a cameo gig for the lot of them.

Also in the books Hercule Poirot is a fat little man who doesn't run or fight like Branagh does. He repeatedly praises his "little grey cells" that do all the work.
>>
>>215098018
Ehh. Not the same script.
Adapting the same novel, yes, but the scripts are different.
Also Lumet's is a fucking snore fest. (Not defending brannagh tho).
Now a good director doesn't need good writing
>Evil Dead 2
But if you had to choose good writer or good director, its writer every time. This is why every Noir director is forgotten, whilst Shakespeare is still winning.
>>
>>215098093
>it's just a cameo gig
>IS THAT SEAN CONNERY!?!?
>>
>>215098105
>This is why every Noir director is forgotten,
But they're not. Writers are very important but you don't need to pit directors against them. Robert Bolt wrote a great script for Lawrence of Arabia but it was David Lean who made it one of the greatest films of all time.
>>
>>215098369
Disagree. That script would still kick arse on stage.
>>
>>215098584
but it wouldn't be one of the greatest stage plays of all time just because of a good script.

i dont think romulus is a ok movie because it looks fantastic. its hardly the worst the franchise has seen
>>
>>215098717
I haven't seen it. I don't trust Disney.
I heard there is throatfucking on the level of AVPR though.
>>
>>215098667
Hamlet
Macbeth
King Lear

All just because of script
>>
>>215098895
>Disney
Graverobbers. They CGI'd the late Ian Holm into the movie just for memberberries.

Romulus is great for the first 40 minutes, before the action begins. Then it's a quick dive into a pit of shit

>>215098895
>I haven't seen it.
It's a disappointing movie. It's not an abortion like Covenant, but it's still pretty bad as I said above. It constantly references other movies (to the point it literally uses exact same lines), it tries to include the black goo from Prometheus, and the fourth act is absolutely ridiculous. Also the Xenomorph is pussified

>I heard there is throatfucking on the level of AVPR though.
It's a close-up shot when they remove a facehugger (pic rel). Pretty hot if you like that sort of stuff, but less hot than the impregnation by throat from AVPR
>>
>>215098895
Romulus is basically just a bunch of scenes and things taken from the other movies.
Had the same model of android guy from Alien, had the bitch line from Aliens, the black goo shit from Prometheus/Covenant, and even decided to copy Resurrection with the hybrid monster.
>>
>>215099011
Yeah, and at least the abomination from Alien 4 was unnerving. That new thing is fuckin ridiculous and does not make any sense. Like everything related to that stupid black semen from Prometheus, all things considered...
>>
>>215098958
Ash? How???? Ash died. And he wasn't a standard A22 model. If he was the Nosttomo crew would have instantly ñoticed.
>>
>>215099140
>Ash? How????
Because there is another scientific android so of course they had to use an absolutely atrocious deepfake of Ian Holm on it. He even uses the same "sympathies" fuck line
>>
I find it hilarious how the space crews seem to get dumber every installment.
Like we had the dumb guy in Prometheus try to pet the alien snake, Covenant had several parts, then Earth had a literal retard and a dumb "scientist" who didn't know proper lab procedure.
>>
>>215099054
You did not just defend fucking Alien 4
>>
>>215099154
.......but Ash was a custom A22.
Because if The Company sent a normal A22, the whole crww would have clocked him.
>>
>>215099166
And Aliens had a fully trained marine stare at a bag of flaming grenades untill it blew up, and Alien 3 had Christians.

What about the bonus situation?

i don't give a fuck about the story of a movie. its not a 'tale'. a movie is a fucking experience. going to these eerie planets as realized 3 times by ridley is enjoyable regardless of who's planning to betray who or whatever fucking shit that doesn't matter
>>
>>215099189
Alien 4 had a (not so) subliminal Ripley Mommy Call Daughterfu homo incest subplot with still prime Winona fucking Ryder, your argument is invalid.
>>

Alien was not written just by O'Bannon. Shusett co-wrote it and Giler and Hill edited the script multiple times for dialogue and such. Hell, Shusett is even named as the guy who invented the facehugger in the quadrilogy box set extras. O'Bannon was a dick who wanted to hog all the glory and never wrote anything on the level of Alien afterwards.
>>
>>215099547
>Giler and Hill
The reason why Fassbender's androids are named David and Walter btw
>>
>>215099335
What about the android attack on the Engineers?
>>
>>215097605
>he was opposed to giger's iconic xenomorph design
wut, he's the one who showed giger's art to ridley. I agree on alien being a team effort though, many great artists other than giger also contributed to it
>>
>>215099780
They are called Space Jockeys.
