>Photography becomes a thing with the camera
>People still want all paintings to be photorealistic because that's the only thing that counts as "Art"
I don't quite understand that. Where was paintings supposed to go? just keep mimicking real life forever?
>>
>>215101584
No famous artist painted like a camera. Simply trying to reproduce reality 1:1.
>>
>>215101487
Random shit actually is a lot more interesting than portraits of old people. Especially if it's literal shit and maybe has a little umbrella on it. Makes u think.
>>
>>215101701
Only if you are autistic and a retard. Those kinds of people are easily tricked and they delude themselves.
For normal people and people with skill the ''boring'' portraits are more interesting because you can examine the technique and learn something. Someone are so good with paint it's like magic. A normalchad will always be fascinated by Bob Ross and how he can paint very sophisticated things with one brush stroke.
An autistic freak looks at a banana taped to a wall and because the autistic freak worships authority and has no theory of mind, he starts having some delusion episode where he convinces himself that if this ''art'' was put up for display then it must mean something, and then they through looney troon mental gymnastics justifying the existence of that piece of shit.

There is a very clear difference between people who like art and ''people'' who ''like'' ''art''
The real ones understand the technical skill and some paintings are interesting because of the background and historical significance for paintings like The Ambassadors.

If you think realistic portraits are the pinnacle of art, figurative realism is alive and well, and there's plenty of artists for you to enjoy. But fags who complain about contemporary art don't actually care about art, they just rail against some misguided idea that modern museums are filled with bananas taped to walls like a bunch of boomer retards.

NTA but yea I ended up not really either getting the movie or caring for it even though it seemed like something I'd go for normally based on the premise and the trailer. Would be interesting to hear what some anon who actually enjoyed it had to say about it and why. Felt really unfocused, like his survival in the apartment was well done in some ways, showing his draining resources as the days go on but then it just goes off on these weird tangents of him pondering stuff that doesn't seem to go anywhere at all. It was a while ago when I watched it but I don't remember being impressed by it beyond the first half.

Many of the artists in the latter half of the 19th century used photographies as the base for the art, and with that some of the artistic touch got lost.

>No painting can compare to the beauty of a real woman
That really depends on the woman/painting. Plenty of women are nowhere near as beautiful as the Mona Lisa (A rather average looking woman), and plenty of women are incredibly beautiful and could easily compete with a beautiful portrait. The thing about paintings though is that they aren't bound by nature like we our. A painting of a woman may be inspired by the most beautiful woman alive, and that woman' beauty will warp and fade while the portrait may outlive her by hundreds if not thousands of years. Not just capturing the beauty of reality though, a painting can become something more than reality. We can take our personal ideal beauty, that perhaps can not exist in this world, and put it on a canvas.

Have you seen it full size, in-person? I haven't and I don't think I could personally make such an assessment based on a small sampling on my screen. Given what I have here, I'd disagree anyway because like I mentioned the landscape is very much relatively simple compared to the focus of the piece, the center cowboy and the cloud mass. Looking at it now, it seems the second cowboy has less detail than the other, too.

Modern crap artists HATE that anyone, with any level of knowledge, at any time, can just deeply enjoy and appreciate and be moved by a Beethoven piece.
