Are these early Cronenbergs horror or at least close to it?
>>215108398100% accurate with the comments about the healthcare/insurance industry.
how do we save horror?
>>215108433we turn into horror ourselves
>>215108433Horror is fine
>>215108433Same way you save movies in general.1. Get rid of the woke retards only interested in pushing a narrative.2. Get rid of the jew bastards only interested in making money.Doing both will allow actual creatives with vision to return. Chances of both happening are basically zero however.
>>215108433Convince everyone James Wan, Damian Leone, David Gordon Green and Ti West have never and will never make a single frame worth watching let alone spending money on.
>>215108433
>>215108628>he thinks Saw is bad>he thinks The Sacrament is badMaybe not be so hyperbolic next time
>>215108321I watched The Monkey last night. Loved it. The trailer and premise made me think it was gonna be total slop but it’s actually told well, funny but doesn’t ruin the horror vibe. Also looked very good. Also, watch “The Surfer” with Nic Cage.
>>215108433Directors need to focus more on creating an appealing style and get away from what has become the default "horror movie" style since the 2010s or so
'Tis the night......the night of the grave's delight.
>>215108398Hell yeah. I haven't seen this one since it hit theaters but Soderbergh pulled off the minimalist look, the lead is a mega qt, and Sue Snell shows up at some point. It's a good film.
>>215108703Saw is maybe the most overrated movie of all time

>>215108875Wrong, but not the point anyway. The argument was that "have never and will never make a single frame worth watching". Saw has one of my iconic endings of all-time, that's an indisputable fact. That's clearly more than a single frame worth watching.
>>215108957>my iconic That's not how iconography works and even if it is "iconic" that doesn't mean fucking anything because lowest common denominator core is the worst garbage on earth.
>>215106712Never heard of this one. I just checked my usual spots and can't seem to find it anywhere.
alright... I'll watch the Casper sequels
>>215108974I mistyped it, meaning it was supposed to be "the most". Still a fact that Saw's ending is iconic. Again, that clearly means it has more than a single frame worth watching. The fact you can't even admit to that just shows how much a child you are.>that doesn't mean fucking anything because lowest common denominator core is the worst garbage on earthYou clearly don't watch many movies or only watch mainstream Hollywood movies. Go and watch A Teenage Tragedy or Crispy and then come back and try to say that. That's right, you won't do that much because then it'll ruin your argument. You're truly one sad and mentally stunted person.
>>215108433whether you like Terrifier or not, you have to admit a no frills SFX heavy slasher absolutely destroying a bunch of these "examinations of grief / analogy for mental disorder" films at the box office is heartening to see.
Saw 1 is just great. No franchise just a great cast and great premise with great execution.
>>215109063It's not the most iconic it's literally just ripping off TCM lmao
I have clawed my way up to 6 horra movies. One more tonight and 2 tomorrow and I'm caught up. I'm officially back in the game. >>215108928Serpent and the Rainbow is one of Wesley's best looking films, I definitely prefer Scream 3 visually though. Peter Deming did Mulholland Drive and Lost Highway around the same time and brought some /film/fag flair to Wes's style.>>215108875Wan ripped his whole visual style from Evil Dead Trap and just trusts that his fans are casuals who don't bother watching more obscure horror movies to find out he he's an unoriginal guy. He ripped Evil Dead Trap off again (plus Argento flickaroonies) for Malignant.
james wan fags jumping to defend him is always so funny it's the same exact energy as people who only watch cartoons for children and blog about how they're super dark and fucked up if you think about it
>>215109083You're either retarded or arguing in bad faith. I clearly said, ONE OF. Do you know what that means? Jesus Christ you're a fucking retarded child through and through. I accept your concession. Filtered. Be a good braindead child and reply more, I won't see it, and I know you can't resist.
>>215109065If he would just hire a writer and some better actors, he could make something great
>>215109107Same with Kingfags.
>>215109124oh look, it’s this faggot again. this is all you have in life.
uh-oh
>>215109104>Wan ripped his whole visual style from Evil Dead Trap Actually Wan very likely ripped off Saw from a film called Den (2001). Documented here: http://www.unseenfilms.net/2014/01/den-2001_13.htmlAnd Wan got sued for ripping off Malignant. Though his wife "wrote" it with him, so it's possible she did the dirty work.https://old.reddit.com/r/Filmmakers/comments/1aol0jn/i_sued_james_wan_and_his_production_company/

Escape from LA is awesome. Every time I watch one of the lesser-regarded John Carpenter movies, I'm always pleasantly surprised. I loved Ghosts of Mars too. I wonder when I'll finally watch one that I agree is garbage.>>215095925 >>>215109572I need a Kirsty gf so badly.... I don't blame Uncle Frank for trying to get freaky with her.
>>215109767>>215109786I will now watch this film.
>>215109821The only one close to being "garbage" is the Chevy Chase invisible man one. Aleo, LA > NY.
>>215109065>heartening to see.i mean, it isn't, but okay.
>>215109787Not when he's making 2 and a half hour long movies with cringey filler story and characters that drag everything else down
Just watched Wishmaster. Good movie. Nice practical effects that are used liberally throughout the movie, cool villain, and nice performances from all the actors. This mostly unrelated to the movie itself, but watching it gave me this burst of nostalgia for the late 90's for some reason. Just something about the interior design and fashion during the more mundane moments of the movie just blasted me back to that time. I remember my mom had these books about meditation and yoga back then and the pictures in those books had exactly the same vibe as some of the shots of interiors in this movie. I know "things from 1997 look like things from 1997" is kinda retarded, but its mundane things like that really bring you back.
>>215109816it was total garbage if you've seen anything it was ripping off or aren't retarded
Rewatching House of Wax (2006). Fantastic slasher with some gnarly effects. Paris Hilton isn't even annoying in it.>>215108928Elves was never even released on DVD. Seems like a prime opportunity for something like Vinegar Syndrome to pick up, the demand will be there if they so it. Also I've never seen it and I want to.
>>215108433Go back to shooting on film, using exclusively (or almost exclusively) practical effects and doing away with the excessive and self-indulgent reliance on allegory and irony.
>>215109922I've seen what it's "ripping off" and I still enjoy it and think it's a fun film. Nothing spectacular but a welcome change from the typical Blumhouse manufactured slophouse stuff.
>>215109828Same.
>>215109934It's funny remembering the Paris Hilton hate from that era.
>>215110192"famous for being famous"
>>215110181zoomers will go WOWEE about this but then refuse to go see that exact film in cinema because the fx "look bad"
Why did Neil Marshall drop off so hard after The Descent? He never recovered from his next movie being kinda shit and flopping.
>>215110181I love the movement in the shot at 22 seconds. The way it moves so powerful and determined in that environment at night. Something about it is so pleasing. Kino.
does this counts as serial killer documentary for halloween month? damm thing was harsh... Not watching the film version tho. 6/10.Also, can't believe that manlet faggot had kids.
>>215110181AIslop is like a voight kampff test for jeets>>215109851Funnily enough that's the one I'm saving for last , same with Wes Craven's Meryl Streep drama flick and Sam Raimi's baseball movie. I feel like every old school horror workman, one movie per year director has some random movie they signed onto. I still remember David Cronenberg's racecar movie and how painful that was.
>>215110409Finally some fucking generative violenceI don't know why it's so rare and hard to find, but it just doesn't exist
>>215110181this reminds me how I watched the creepshow episode with werewolves and there were 3 guys who got turned into werewolves from the same woman at the same time and when they all transformed they all were totally different designs. one was more like a man-wolf, one looked like basically a fursuit and one was like a monster wolf that walked on all fours like.......why do that? it bothered me.
I don't really think I'd mind if studios used AI instead of CGI when necessary. I still think practical effects are probably the smartest way to go in most situations, but obviously you can't do everything you want with practical effects.
>>215110409In the near future, I think we're going to see this replace VFX. There'll still be actors filming scenes, but instead of CGI monsters it'll be AI transposed over men wearing green suits.I don't think we'll ever move onto full AI films, at least for the bigger budget ones.
>>215110471Most of the AI hate is about the uniformity of AI rather than the technology. It's the same reason people are revulsed by corporate art. It's the ubiquity of it, the negative associations etc. Humans crave novelty. We need to feel that whatever happens next in a movie is going to be exciting and unpredictable.
>>215110471>>215110476I've been saying thisSome dude with a laptop right now can make better looking stuff than the 20 indian studios they spend billions onOnce they realize this it's going to change things
>>215110476Completely delusional, some jeet will try and make shit on his own, but it will never be in theaters, will never get a wide release, will never be watched, the film INDUSTRY exists so that people can have jobs and make money.
>>215110409>>215110181Those are still very AI for the most part but they also have a very practical feel and I really like that.
>>215109922>you cant have fun with new thing because it's similar to old thing!!i dont agree
>>215110553Didn't some actual studio just try to like upload their entire catalog of content into AI to try to make a new John Wick movie and it was STILL unwatchable slop? I have literally never seen anything AI generated that made me think "yeah I'd watch this." Slop is slop.
>>215110586Bruh right now basically every major hollywood film is full of shit ass fake looking bullshit CGI. The film industry exists to save money. I've met some weta digital people over the years and that is a slave factory. They'll do anything to get VFX out faster.
>>215110409movies like this where there are a ton of visually unrelated monsters all wreaking havoc together?
>>215110538Oh I absolutely agree with that. That's why I'm only willing to give it so much slack to play with. It would be extremely easy for studios to fall into the same lazy pattern they fell into with CGI except it'll be even worse because they could potentially make an entire film with the technology. I know the "it's a tool like any other tool" argument gets thrown around a lot but it's true. It could be useful if used as a tool rather than a pattern-forming crutch. I'm not opposed to its use so long as it can actually be used to fit an individual's unique vision onto the screen.
>>215110623Actual films probably not but vfx absolutely
>>215110635*make money, not save

>>215110661Thinking of watching this tonight if the mood is right. One of the few 70s classics I haven't seen.
>>215108433can't tell what's scarier the lip injections or keemstar
>>215110476all you have to do is make AI easier to guide to do a specific thing. the problem isnt really how AI looks because it looks better every day, the problem is that it is somewhat unpredictable in the result. if you can fine tune it to get exactly what you want every time, and maintain consistency with itself for more than a few seconds, AI movies will definitely be possible.
>>215110721Film is decent, Foy's performance is incredible
aijeets really dont understand that the majority of human beings actually like other people and would prefer to see them over artificially generated homunculiyou would think a general full of waifufags who are obsessed with random women in obscure movies from 40, 50 years ago would understand this

Do you guys treat Spooktober as a strictly horror month or do you watch other stuff as well?I like to watch exploitation joints and sci-fi as well. In Halloween they're watching Forbidden Planet on the TV so watching cheesy alium and kaiju flicks, italian sword and sandal slop, has always been part of my yearly tradition. As well as gritty action movies like Assault on Precinct 13.
>>215109491>bad faithslop
Horror taking place during Christmas is scarier to me for some reason than horror taking place during Halloween. The atmosphere in this was incredible, on the level of Pulse, Cure & Blackcoat's Daughter. Why did this guy stop making horror?
I just remembered that Exorcist BELIEVER exists
>>215110639Thir13en GhostsHousemaybe The RiftI love movies where they just kitchen sink a bunch of little fx details together. Most of the ones that come to mind don't really count as monsters though.
>>215110920I've read enough issues of Heavy Metal to spot Richard Corben's art anywhere. The guy was a genius.
>>215108321Currently watching From Dusk Till Dawn. Did not know it was this campy but the influence Raimi had on Rodriguez is astounding.

>>215111041Fantastic horror film
>>215111036i accidentally watched some scifi drama thrillers and i feel like i wasted a day of halloween
>>215111036i watch a lot of thrillers and mystery early in the month. exploitation, mondo, giallo, i scatter that stuff all throughout the month. like people might not classify picnic at hanging rock a horror but I saw that last year and i found it eerie at times.
>>215110869Frankenstein's Army
>>215111116What did you watch?
>>215111041>Why did this guy stop making horror?Because most horror directors before the current era were journeymen who just took the jobs they were offered and before A24 auteurslop horror was seen as unglamorous. Wes Craven and Tobe Hooper are really the only ones I can think of off the top of my head that got pigeonholed into making horror movies. Clark probably thought his horror stuff was on the same tier of disposable fun as Porky's.

What Mr. West does is exploit the Jonestown massacre in the most vile and disgusting manner under the guise of a 'sensitive treatment of the subject' (his own words). IF YOU'RE SO FUCKING SENSITIVE AT LEAST HAVE THE GODDAMN COURTESY TO PAY SOME TRIBUTE TO THE REAL STORY YOU'RE RIPPING OFF!! There is no subtext, it says nothing, it just exploits something real. And in my book, that is very very wrong. You have abused a true horror story and by doing so insulted the victims and survivors.
