Season 1 Episode 8 of the X-files is a blatant rip-off of The Thing.

The episode immediately prior was a tired rehash of "le ai gone bad" that we've all seen in 2001, terminator, tron, etc.

It's interesting how often an episode of a tv show will just be a ripoff (or "parody" or "homage") of a famous movie. Kids Next Door did this a few times. Simpsons had not 1 but 2 episodes ripping off "Inherit the Wind" and Futurama did an "Inherit the Wind" episode as well. I hesitate to watch Samurai Jack too much, because despite the quality, I can't shake the feeling that the writers just ripped off a bunch of brilliant movies I haven't heard of yet, and is pre-emptively ruining the endings of them for me.

What are some of your favorite or most hated episodes of TV shows that were ripoffs of movies?

Oh wow, you're in for a mental breakdown once you watch the rest of the show, detective numbnuts.

What are you saying? That the show was written by hacks who plagiarize every episode, or that I'm an idiot for noticing?

Plenty of other shows do this. I was just using X-files as one example since I just saw it.

A bit of A, a bit of B. Referencing other things or making a homage doesn't make you a hack. It's not every episode but you'll find frequent references to films and other shows, with some twists.
And yeah, it was pretty obvious what they were referencing. No need to pat yourself on the back for this one.

Yeah its fun. We need more adaptations and riffs on Who Goes There

I said it was blatant. I didn't call myself a genius for noticing
You're looking for reasons to be contrarian.

Wow just openly admitting you’re on your first watch like that…

This board is full of toddlers who are getting filtered by Back to the Future and Ghostbusters, of all things.
I never got around to it until now. The fuck do you want?

You made a thread all outraged and shit. You needed the world to know.
If the setup mimicking The Thing (itself a remake) sent you off the rails, you should watch something else.

I made a thread because I wanted to talk about other shows that did this.

I wanted to have a discussion about a common practice in television and film on the television and film board.

While calling the writers hacks and replying angrily to every post on the thread. Calm down, sugartits. It's just a homage to one of the greatest horror movies ever made.
