is De Palma good?
>>
>>215114419
he gets lost in the sauce too much and can't make a consistently good movie for shit. he's actually better when he makes full retard movies like body double
tarantino fags don't even think of replying
>>
from Sisters to Mission Impossible is mostly kino
>>
>>215114419
He is kinda weird, goes from cult classics to blockbuster-ish to shit. I like him, though, there is definitely a flavour to his films
>>
Body Double is so dumb that it circles back and becomes kino. Phantom of Paradise is also worth a watch.

Not always no, but there's plenty of good and even great movies in that list.
>>
hit and miss
>>
I’ve seen Phantom of the Paradise, Carrie, and Blow Out. All three were edited the exact same. I didn’t feel any emotion watching any of them. Even Carrie surprised me by how lifeless it was. Even schlock like Slumber Party Massacre does a better job of getting into the emotions of high schoolers.
I admit I haven’t seen a lot of his movies, but after watching those I have no interest in watching more.

Made some great stuff but self indulgent and inconsistent, and ripped off Hitchcock far too much. When he was on form he made stylish and fun stuff

>when he makes full retard movies like body double
come on, Body Double is only half retarded and it's a fun watch if you're in the mood, I watch my DVD about once a year. Blow Out is the one that's full retarded.

this looks like fun, House of Laughing Windows is one of my favourite films but this looks very different tonally.

>no emotion at the end of Blow Out
Either your copy was missing the last 5 mins or you're a sociopath

De Palma is the most important American artist produced from the 60s and 70s cultural revolution.
>>
>>215114775
Saying De Palma is devoid of personality is literally the last criticism I would ever make about him. Just total nonsense here. Blow Out is like 4 different movie genres wrapped in 1.
>>
>>215114419
>Dressed to Kill
>Blow Out
>Scarface
>Body Double
Insane kino streak.
>>
>>215114419
He fell off hard in the 90s and never recovered
Hell of a run though
>>
>>215114437
>shit. he's actually better when he makes full retard movies like body double
It’s kinda jarring to me how he made something like Scarface, a movie that defined pop culture to something low budget like Body Double. Not saying body double was bad I actually enjoyed the film before fully understanding who de Palma was since I learned about this movie through the American Psycho novel but it’s crazy how Scarface and body double were filmed one year apart
>>
>>215114419
Unfortunately, De Palma is a case where the learner (Tarantino) surpassed the master. He was great at direction but never good at writing original stories unlike Tarantino
>>
>>215117355
Scarface is Oliver Stone movie with De Palma aesthetics and no politics
Carlito's Way is Scarface's De Palma without Oliver Stone shit
>>
>>215117540
Carlito's Way isn't very political though unless you count it as a redpill on Jews
>>
>>215114419
Yes. There are exactly five perfect movies of the 1980s, and De Palma is the only person to direct more than one of them.
>>
>>215114419
He's undoubtedly good but has a tendency to disappear up his own ass. His best stuff is his big budget commercial stuff because there are more external elements influencing him. He also can't pick scripts for shit.

>>215117890
>Robocop
>E.T.
>Back to the Future
>Aliens
>Lethal Weapon
But De Palma didn't direct any of those
>>
>>215117890
Scarface and The Untouchables?

Close. Scarface and Body Double.
>>
>>215114419
George should have listened to DePalma and buried Star Wars and never spoken of it again
>>
>>215114419
Yes. Basically everything he did is kino.
>>
>>215114419
hes the most random director of all time
>>
>half of his movies are 10/10
>half of his movies are total dogshit
>>
>>215118572
...But enough about John Carpenter
>>
>>215114419
Lard version of Hitchcock
>>
>>215114419
yes
>>
>>215114419
He is an absolute pleb filter. Only people who actually have good taste in film appreciate his work.
>>
>>215114419
Yes
