>Healer Agnes Hathaway (Jessie Buckley) and her husband, aspiring playwright William Shakespeare (Paul Mescal), struggle to come to terms with the loss of their only son, Hamnet — The tragedy that inspired the creation of The Bard’s "Hamlet."

Why does Hollywood keep hiring this hack? Didn't The Eternals flop?
>>
>>215130324
Shakespeare ripped off a norse revenge legend for Hamlet, not that the jews will ever admit to that

seems like a nice fictional story.

Western Asian Woman privilege is insane.
>>
>>215130324
The trailer may be misguiding, but the "Pray, cry, love, and be thankful that you had it and not sad that you lost it" tone seems completely at odds with how relentlessly nihilistic Hamlet is.

''stop crying, feeble creature, thou may lie in thy second best bed tonight if it make thou feel better.''
>>

Eternals is irrelevant, it was a paycheck job, the biggest artistic input Zhao was allowed to have there is the cinematography being a bit different
Nomadland was meh and was a big compromise Oscar win but her earlier movie The Rider is excellent
>>
>>215130324
I'm so tired of pretending people understand anything at all about Shakespeare's psychology or personal experiences. The guy is a complete mystery and will remain so forever.

>>215130982
There's nothing 'relentlessly nihilistic' about Hamlet.
>>
>>215130355
she won best director which means she basically gets to keep making films forever regardless of budget or reception

Are you talking about the man from Stratford?

Modern day seems crazy to lose a child but wasn't the death rate of children like 50% back then?
>>
>>215130355
Chinese. Woman. Hollywood loves promoting that sort of thing.
>>
>>215131512
no but it's pretty clearly a revisionist work of imagination filtered though modern sensibilities.

Yes, it's kino from Gesta Danorum.
Amleth's story takes 2 parts, and only the first half is technically taken by Shakespare.
Amleth is a giga chad who pretends to be retarded.
not-Claudious suspects he is pretending to be retarded, so he sends a woman to seduce him. However, instead of not fucking her, Amleth eats his cake by tricking his uncle and still fucking the girl.
After Amleth sets his uncle's drinking hall on fire, and then holds a long speech about how they should elect him as their king.
Amleth then travels to Britain and marries a Briton princess. However, the King of Britain doesn't want to give his daughter to a Danish barbarian, so he sends him on a mission to conquer Scotland, hoping that he dies.
Scotland is ruled by a horny witch-queen who has been able to kill all conquerors with her magic. However, when he sees Amleth she surrenders to him and they get married.
Amleth returns from Scotland with his new wife, and still demands the British princess, because "polygamy is in Danish fashion".
The King of Britain plans to assassinate him; however, before he is able to Amleth sets his drinking in flame, killing him.
Amleth and his two brides then return to Denmark

it's fine, but everything feels a bit too safe, it avoids serious drama and the really shitty aspects of the lifestyle portrayed, you don't need to make something ultra depressing like Agnes Varda's Vagabond (great film) but at least put in hints
there are some effective scenes tho, and the visual approach is great, it's not terrible
not sure what /pol/ reason would there be to shit on the flick, I guess i saw some schizos view the movie as an Amazon ad somehow? just cause the main character worked in Amazon
either way Zhao's first two films are much better
>>
>>215131979

if you want another example, John Alcott
