star trek sex with shran
alright guys, watching TNG S3E2; "Ensigns of Command". Wish me luck.
>>215134442Not bad on your first watchthrough, but I skip this one a lot on repeats now.
Are we in agreement?
that feel when you skub out during the episode intro and you gotta rewind see what this about.
>>215134552Neelix should be S tier.

>>215135023fact: Kor is the best Klingon there ever was. there's a lot of that in TOS. the first to do it is still the best to do it.
tv used to be good and fun and stuff

Man wtf is with season 4 of Discovery? Does everyone have to have some gay tragic sob story? It's starting to grate me.
yum eeeee
>>215135826>It's been a quarter century since either franchise was good
>>215135058Based fellow John Colicos enjoyer. He was pure kino as Baltar too
>>215134557skub sucks
>>215134552I would move B'ellana up a bit though you're pretty close.
>>215135023Organia episode is super based
>>215136869I ate their vegan almond milk ice cream and it was very good.
>>215136501Starting to grate you? STARTING TO? You're made of steelier stuff than I am. I finished season 4 and it was gay as shit but now I'm halfway through season 5 and I fucking hate Mollenlock. Mostly the woman though. It's like in seasons 4 and 5 they knew they had a giant Michelle Yeoh sized hole to fill. As bad and stupid as her character was, she had the most charisma on the cast.
>>215136501Millennial writers mistake trauma dumping for good character writing. We were rolling our eyes at it 40 years ago when Tasha kept bringing up the rape gangs.
>>215135023I like the hillbilly singer in that TNG episode. He should have stuck around and been buddies with Data.
Speculating that TV would die out about 50 years in the future of when this episode was produced was a pretty reasonable guess... but turns out it's still clinging on to life
>>215137231Broadcast TV and radio will definitely be dead in 50 years. Once millennials and zoomers get in power, we’re gutting all this antiquated boomer technology.
>>215137329Kek as if zoomers are smart enough to do anything productive. These things will exist as long as big pharma is allowed to continue funding it through constant advertising
>Woman bawling her eyes out>Troi: I sense you are feeling immense sadnesswoah...so this is the power of betazoid telepathy...
>>215135023>The Neutral ZoneI like Picard's absolute disdain for the unfrozen people. He treats like them like absolute cavemen befouling his ship.
>>215137329broadcast tv has has had a resurgence in popularity for a while now. antennas are $10 and there is a fair amount of good channels with older content. pair with a streaming service or pirate box and you're set
>>21513732950 years from now sure maybe, but TNG estimated only about 15 years from present
>>215137483It's an example that should've been shown to writers of Picard as to why Picard didn't "love" Data. He definitely blamed Data for being the cave people on board.
>>215137483The worst thing is that 2020s society is even dumber than the time period where the humans were frozen. The modern version of that episode would be a broccoli head asking what the ship’s WiFi password is so he could check his crypto wallet.

I miss kino character actors like that guard in this episode that was also Billy's neighbor in Gremlins.
Sisko is a GIBMEDATS
so how do they know they're not in a causal loop where them being there at that time and attempting to interfere caused the Bell riots to take place the way they did and by doing nothing they'd actually be altering the timeline?
>>215135826looks gay
>>215138207he's in a lot of stuff, or was. the guest spots used to be a highlight to watch for
>>215138260Because Sisko is just a wildcard and won't sit around and do nothing ever.
>>215138172You seem awfully comfortable with discussing suicide. Projection, maybe? I have no desire to kms. I would miss all of you too much!
Which are you, /trek/? A gimme or a dim?
William Shatner did not generally get along with his Star Trek co-stars, with many finding him difficult to work with due to his ego and tendency to "pull focus". While he and Leonard Nimoy were at times at odds, they were also sometimes seen as friends. DeForest Kelley was a good friend of Shatner. However, actors like George Takei and Nichelle Nichols have openly criticized Shatner for years, with Takei calling him a "prima donna".
>>215138426As one of the protected Peoples of the Book, I am a dimme
>>215138267shut up welshy
>>215136793holy shit I watched the og battlestar as a kid it never clicked for me its the same actor
Okay so the Defiant is shielded from timeline effects, sure I'll buy it. But why, when Sisko and Bashir changed the timeline, did they only notice the effects hours or days after their beamout, and not immediately? That makes no sense
>>215135023for the love of god janeway even 20th century primitives had the Geneva Convention
>>215138676because time travel stories never make sense unless you allow for a bit of 'time' lol between cause and effect

>>215141628I love the Bell Riots two-parter so much.
>>215134078After finishing the next generation, do you guys recommend watching deep space nine even if I haven't seen the original series? Or is the original a pre-requisite?
>>215143604Honestly, the only time TOS is relevant in DS9 is an episode that you probably know by osmosis. Trouble with Tribbles, which is spliced together with DS9 to create Trials and Tribble-ations.
>>215143426
>>215143613Okay cool. I have tried with the original series but I just can't get into it. It's so formulaic and very obviously not meant to be binged.
I'm getting into Star Trek right now. Should I watch the series in complete sequential order before moving on to the next which is what I've been doing, or watch multiple series concurrently?
>>215143604Never managed to watch more than the odd episode of TOS.You need a bit of TNG for DS9, but that's about it.
>>215143613and the mirror universe, which iirc is not in TNG at all
>>215143613They have a whole ass episode of TOS Klingons trying to die honorably on DS9. It has a lot more than people realize.

>>215138676>But why, when Sisko and Bashir changed the timeline, did they only notice the effects hours or days after their beamout, and not immediately?example?
>>215143958It was Data themed. And with the recent upswing of AI. Which is a bad thing. Most Trekkie folks have become unsympathetic to his character. Either that. Or, the Bingo dweeb killed the vibe again.
>>215137924I am going to have to agree with you. It is something to do with the feather in the hair and that outfit. I love the whole jacket + skirt combo.
>>215144241Oh yeah, Clint Howard in DS9 another TOS callback.
>>215144250The writers of DS9 loved TOS and worked in as much as they could, far more than TNG which was always trying to distance itself from TOS.VOY didn't much care for TOS either if I recall and ENT preceded TOS.
>>215143834>no 47sInto the trash it goes!
>>215144278>VOY didn't much care for TOS either if I recallThere was a callback here or there. From what I remember, Janeway fondly calls Kirk's crew a bunch of cowboys, and there's that episode where they travel back into Tuvok's memory of serving on the Excelsior

They paid them and let them work for months on the FX, then they asked to see what they had finished 9 months before the release of TMP in theaters, all Abel had finished was the wormhole sequence. >>215151408it isn't bad its unique one of a kind, no-one has ever managed to do what he does
>>215151408To be fair even Patrick Stewart even had bad and overly stiff line reads. It makes you wonder why they didn't choose a better take. >>215151696this bashir and miles are bros ride or die, tom and harry are sterile and lame
>>215151480Yeah, getting a reaction isn't a bad thing, and I think a lot of people are just accustomed to plain and flat dialogue. What Avery does as Sisko wouldn't be out of place on the theatre stage, and especially a lot of modern TV has lost something in having naturalistic dialogue while still using theatre style line delivery without emphasis.>tldr Brooks is based
>>215151729for me, it's miles barclay
>>215151729Pairings like Miles/Bashir, Kirk/Spock, and Data/Geordi make perfect sense. They balance each other out. I think in all three shows they didn't even like each other at first but conflict forced them to work together.
>>215150427This was so stupid I understood the why but the lesson is dumb in context to everything in and around when he ask for a chance and they say hes to timid the man is activaly trying at that moment and to assume that because someone is hesitant once will always be hesitant I mean fuck picard does behaves like that alot in show why is it a weakness now also for Riker to be the critic to point this out is retarded should've been a different character Janeway would've fit the situation better
>>215148237From what I've heard they put together a task force to determine what life would be like in the future and based their design decisions off that. Some nut suggested that the future of fashion was disposable clothing, hence the boring looking jumpsuits with sewn-in shoes. I much prefer the TOS approach of just assuming whatever was cool in the present day would be common place in the future, which leads to military officers wearing Beatle Boots and tight-fitting pants.
>>215151932Fashion is cyclical so the of-their-time wardrobes of old Trek doesn't even break my immersion. Whose to say 60's and 80's fashion won't be back in style when those shows take place?

>>215146394>I got an ugly Morrigan, hey what up Jess>I'd rather put my dick inside M'Ress
>>215152084funny to think that these men fought in ww2
>>215152004That's one of the reasons I think the visual design of TOS holds up so well. I guess the Pop Art colours and plastic chairs look dated and tacky to actual Boomers who can remember the 60's, but I when I was watching reruns as a kid, I'd never seen anything like that, it looked perfectly space-age to me.
>>215152198what compels you to post such trash? after all these years why?
>>215152185TOS is so dated visually that it wraps back around to being novel. It also helps that the directors understood staging and blocking so your eye is always following the characters.TV shows now have such uninspired staging because the directors know you're glancing up at the screen from your phone every 30 seconds.
>>215152350The irrepressible spirit of juche.
>>215152531no I think its just the directors have no fucking clue what they are doing
Ah, I made it to STD 506. The episode where Tilly has to win a footrace. Totally not immersion breaking or anything. A fat whale could easily outrun a native. It's 56 fucking minutes long. This is saying a lot, but this piece of shit is high on the running for worst episode of STD.

>>215152680Only if Dear Leader wills it.
>>215152531TOS has a level of sincerity that modern TV wouldn't go anywhere near: the bombastic orchestral soundtrack, the way the lighting will change to reflect the character's emotions, the over-the-top stage combat; stuff like that is what makes it peak television.
>>215152753>the bombastic orchestral soundtrackBear McReary's BSG soundtrack can be rightfully treated as an opera on its own merits. He even walks through the entire creative process meticulously on his site, by episode and by track.https://bearmccreary.com/project/battlestar-galactica/

>>215152980There's just too much to even get angry about. Every minute is stupider than the last minute. Oh now Tilly has an eye that can scan the walls where they're trapped. What??? Most of STD is just boring trash but this episode is infuriating
Did he bring order?
>>215152980I will say one thing. It's pretty funny how shit they were at analyzing this culture. They whistle to talk, oh wow, they have 3 genders, how magical, they don't have any form of social hierarchy, wow they're so evolved. Then WHOOPS they happen to practice human sacrifice. Lol. Nice job miss Captain Xenoanthropologist. Now Burnham just broke the prime directive. I'm on the home stretch after this one anyway.

>>215152967I think somewhere along the way they got the idea that Trek titles are supposed to be "classy", so you get pretentious names like "Persistence of Vision" or "To Thine Own Self" that are often tangential to the plot, or even completely unrelated. It's even worse when they go with a Latin episode name. The episode titles are pure space opera / pulp fiction: TNG kept it up for a little while: "Encounter at Farpoint", "The Arsenal of Freedom", "The Last Outpost", but they eventually gave up. The episode names used to be memorable, as soon as I hear a TOS title, I know which one it is. As much as I love VOY, I'll see a title like "Caecillius est in Horto" and it's 15 minutes before I remember which one it is. And often, the episode doesn't have a guy named Caecillus or a garden in it.
