Xander is a little annoying and makes some shitty decisions, but so does every other character on the show and he braves it all without ever developing superpowers. He's horny in highschool but that's normal and he shows his character when he doesn't take advantage of Buffy in Season 2's episode where he accidentally cast the love spell. Later on in Seasons 5-onward, he's the one who's financially supporting and fixing the mistakes of his friends, and sustaining their ability to protect Dawn and the world as a whole, especially Seasons 6-7. Arguably Willow is the worst of the core Scooby gang, even though she was my favorite for the first 4 seasons.

A writer believed to be Noxon, but it was never confirmed, pitched of a time she tried to seduce her boyfriend to save a failing relationship. .This turned into the bathroom attack. The credited writer said he did not write the scene, so it was either Joss or Marti. I'm guessing it was Joss given how it was done. It's bizarre they claim he was sabotaging the character when he was made the leading man the very next season. Marsters told the story of Joss pushing him against the wall a million times prior to 2017 saying Joss was joking around. Then when the shit hit the fan, suddenly it became an assault. Marsters is a massive drama queen and likes to be the center of attention.
