The Elephant Man is the worst Lynch's film after Dune, but apart from that it's a decent list

The list belies how Eggers is more interested in making period pieces that contain fantastic elements rather than fantasies with historical flair.
>Biopic
>Biopic about a weird guy
>Period drama (eastern)
>Period drama (western)
>Period drama (west meets east)
>Hard-Scifi Chamber Piece
>Nosferatu (it is what it is)
>Fitzcarraldo (it is what it is)
>Biopic (europe)
>Persona (it is what it is)
The three "it is what it is" titles are probably the things that make The VVitch, The Lighthouse, and The Northman actually interesting to watch, which makes me think there are dozens of other popular yet outside the norm films he COULD have mentioned, but he's such a period piece autist that he didn't bother. Complete lack of self-awareness.

>every single entry is One of the Greatest Films of All Time™
Absolute nothing knocking around in that head of his. Only horror flick on there is Psycho, which isn't even Hitchcock's greatest. I'm never gonna watch his stupid blacked porn horror trilogy, and I hope no studio ever hires him again.
>>
Is the West list real?
>>
>>215139308
His own films are shit, so what else would he like but shit? Apocalypse Now is brilliant though, everyone gets a pass for listing it.
>>
>>215139731
delusional, Elephant Man is clearly in the top 50% of Lynchkinos
Imagine thinking Wild at Heart or Fire Walk with Me is superior

He didn't specify which version of AN though

But In a Valley of Violence is 10x better than anything Eggers has dreamt of.

Yes, these screenshots are Ballots for the American Film Archive's 2023 Sight & Sound Top Ten. Here's a bunch of other directors from the same year, all of whom made better choices than Ti West.
>>215140698
Honestly, The VVitch & The Northman don't really interest me, and I'm pretty sure most of the things I enjoyed from The Lighthouse were his brother Max's contributions. So sure, I'll give the cowboy movie a look-see sometime.

There legit top 10 movies, but the theatrical is better.

>I'll give the cowboy movie a look-see sometime.
Valley of Violence is quite good. Not amazing, but Ziggy Sobotka plays a good villain.

I've only seen the first redux, and while I thought all the new scenes were good I also thought the dinner at the random fuckin' french plantation completely broke the tension/flow of them driving down the river deeper into the heart of darkness.
Yeah, I get why it's there and how its timeless nature is indicative of the attitudes of the frenchmen refusing to vacate no matter which regime controls the surrounding regions, but it just doesn't work at all narratively.

Same here. That's why they cut it I guess. uneeded.

kek oliver stone is surprisingly based
>>
>>215141054
Everything he's made is great, so it's not that surprising to me.
>>
>>215139308
He’s a fraud who thinks using historically accurate necktie fabric in the costumes makes a movie good, but that’s a decent list you can tell he genuinely believes in from watching his own work.
>>
whys it everytime they do this theyre afraid to put the movies they actually like

There are two types of people who like 2001. The first "like" it because they think they're supposed to, the other are genuine auteurs who love Kubrick's specific style of film. The rest who dislike it also fall into two camps, popcorn flick enjoyers and midwits.
>>
>>215140803
In order from best to worst
>Stone
>Winding Refn
>Miller
>Spheeris
Stone's best 80s movie is Salvador
>>
>>215141267
And the Safdies?
>>
>>215139308
as expected from a pretentious faggot with shit opinions
>>
>>215140803
Safdies list are pretty good and personal.
>>
>>215141281
They have serious "these are my influences as a film maker and artist" lists rather than lists of movies they like.
>>
>>215141427
Well, an artist should like the films that influence them, right?
>>
>>215141446
Yes, but they're trying too hard. Look at the difference between their lists and the three great old directors. The old people lists are a lot more informal.
