genuinely unironically what is the scariest film of all time
Probably truman show
I'm Thinking of Ending Things. I'm terrified of ending up an old mentally ill loser that never amounted to anything and has nobody and all I have left is my own fantasies of what could have been.
not a horror movie but I don't remember the name about a kid who gets abducted and raised by his abductor. he get brainwashed and abused by his captor and as a teen he escapes and returns home. very screwed up. this movie terrorized me
>>215142724real life.the rest is fiction to make you believe there's something worse and scarier than waking up every day. but there's not.
>>215142838The skin I live in?
Pretty subjective but the only "genre classic" horror film that has aged even remotely well is The Exorcist. Shit like Rosemary's Baby and The Birds just show how fucking retarded boomers are and most Gen X era favorites are just genre-aware ironic crap
>>215142856AGP kino
>>215142838>I Know My First Name Is Steven 1989true story is what made it scary
>>215142724sometimes I get the most creeped out by random scenes in otherwise shitty movies, even more than the best horror movies. There's this scene in The Invasion (of the body snatchers remake) where a creepy guy is knocking on her door and night and trying to get let inside. Idk why it really got to me, it's just an okay scene. I swear right after this scene, it's like 2am and someone starts banging on my front door irl, a LOT and very loudly. Like a fucking horror movie knock. You will never have a movie moment that scares you as much as that shit scared me.
>>215142860Rosemary's Baby is peak jew horror.
>>215142817good pick. basically in the same boat right now and it's terrifying
this or midsomar
>>215142724Not a film but a scene in Persona. The one when she confesses fucking teenage boys on a beach. I swear to God I find it absolutely terrifying.
>>215142936If by that you mean, "unintentional redpill on a shadowy cabal who hate christ and want to run the world," then you might be right. There is not a single point at which that movie is scary, though.
>>215142724umm Threads, obvio
>>215142817>>215142940Dying young sounds scarier to me.>Oh no I'll have regrets!!!Yeah, after you lived life
>>215142724Having watched many many horror movies, Hereditary for me.Other contenders are, Skinamarink for vibes, The Girl Next Door for groundedness, Possum for standalone effective scenes, Audition for the ending, Goodnight Mommy for parenting stuff, and maybe Incantation for asian supernatural horror
>>215142915>older brother later became a serial killer
>>215142817Pussy foot faggot lmao
>>215142724Not a film but black mirror just cause of how real and possible every single episode is.
>>215143199You ever watched Barbarian? I liked Weapons so I was wondering if it's any good.

>>215143639Anon knowsSecret bird plots
>>215142724If I thought about it it probably wouldn't be a horror film. More likely one that shone a light on the ultimate futility of life and the world in general.
>>215142724On the Beach
>>215142724Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum (2018) a South Korean picture, is way up there for meJacob's Ladder, with Tim Robbins, freaked me the fuck out when I was a kid. Shouldn't have been watching that... is what I would say if I were a wussyNoroi: The Curse (2005) as well
>>215142975I have masturbated to that scene.
>>215142724Either Insidious or The Conjuring. No old horror movies are actually scary, those ones will at least make you jump.
Prince of Darkness

I was 15 when I watched in 2012. Spend a whole week checking my bedroom before going to sleep, making sure there was no serial killer with a crow mask and a handycam.
>>215142724Most horror films are shit, you go into them expecting to be scared and so it never works. The diner scene in Mulholland Drive though was the first thing in years that actually made me pause and look away.>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UozhOo0Dt4o
>>215142724Amour by Haneke.Messiah of Evil was trash.
>>215142915>>215143333So I just read in to this. It’s insanely fishy and I feel theres a lot more to it. >Kidnapper’s cabin was about 100 feet from the child’s grandfather’s cabin>After fleeing, his father basically wrote it all off and said he didn’t need any therapy >Kid gets kicked out of the house after all this>Kidnapper only spend ls 5 years in jail and his accomplices mostly get off scott free>Prosecutors didn’t even bother to try him in certain counties >Steven is later killed in a suspicious hit and run on his motorcycle >Older brother becomes a serial killerYeah Stevens parents sold him to Parnell. And they must have been involved in some serious evil shady shit. It’s so obvious
>>215142724I think Shivers is pretty chilling.Even tho it's kinda goofy and date, the implication of sex zombies is viscerally unsettling.
>>215142724
>>21514272428 days later has to be up there
Marebito was pretty unsettling too, in a Lovecraft way. More of a fantasy than a horror film. Audition is more of a ghost story than anything else.

jaws
Hereditary because it's a family drama with extreme horror elements rather than a pure horror movie. And those horror elements are somehow both fantastical and grounded. If such things were possible, that's how they would be done. Ari Aster will never come close to matching it.
try horror games, horror games are much more effective than horrror movies

>>215149236I feel like skinamarink is really close to being a masterpiece. If it was just like 10% closer to a regular, spooky movie, 10% less art house, 10% faster, it might be perfect. If you get engrossed, it can be quite scary, but you also might fall asleep before that happens.
