genuinely unironically what is the scariest film of all time
>>
Probably truman show
>>
I'm Thinking of Ending Things. I'm terrified of ending up an old mentally ill loser that never amounted to anything and has nobody and all I have left is my own fantasies of what could have been.
>>
not a horror movie but I don't remember the name
about a kid who gets abducted and raised by his abductor. he get brainwashed and abused by his captor and as a teen he escapes and returns home. very screwed up. this movie terrorized me

Pretty subjective but the only "genre classic" horror film that has aged even remotely well is The Exorcist. Shit like Rosemary's Baby and The Birds just show how fucking retarded boomers are and most Gen X era favorites are just genre-aware ironic crap

sometimes I get the most creeped out by random scenes in otherwise shitty movies, even more than the best horror movies.

There's this scene in The Invasion (of the body snatchers remake) where a creepy guy is knocking on her door and night and trying to get let inside. Idk why it really got to me, it's just an okay scene.
I swear right after this scene, it's like 2am and someone starts banging on my front door irl, a LOT and very loudly. Like a fucking horror movie knock.
You will never have a movie moment that scares you as much as that shit scared me.

If by that you mean, "unintentional redpill on a shadowy cabal who hate christ and want to run the world," then you might be right. There is not a single point at which that movie is scary, though.

Other contenders are, Skinamarink for vibes, The Girl Next Door for groundedness, Possum for standalone effective scenes, Audition for the ending, Goodnight Mommy for parenting stuff, and maybe Incantation for asian supernatural horror

Most horror films are shit, you go into them expecting to be scared and so it never works. The diner scene in Mulholland Drive though was the first thing in years that actually made me pause and look away.

So I just read in to this. It’s insanely fishy and I feel theres a lot more to it.
>Kidnapper’s cabin was about 100 feet from the child’s grandfather’s cabin
>After fleeing, his father basically wrote it all off and said he didn’t need any therapy
>Kid gets kicked out of the house after all this
>Kidnapper only spend ls 5 years in jail and his accomplices mostly get off scott free
>Prosecutors didn’t even bother to try him in certain counties
>Steven is later killed in a suspicious hit and run on his motorcycle
>Older brother becomes a serial killer

Yeah Stevens parents sold him to Parnell. And they must have been involved in some serious evil shady shit. It’s so obvious

Hereditary because it's a family drama with extreme horror elements rather than a pure horror movie. And those horror elements are somehow both fantastical and grounded. If such things were possible, that's how they would be done. Ari Aster will never come close to matching it.

If you get engrossed, it can be quite scary, but you also might fall asleep before that happens.

Most scared I've ever been in a movie was probably Lake Mungo. At the time when I watched it I vaped, and was puffing on one of those disposable smokers. During the one single scary shot in the movie of her bloated corpse, the smoker was stood up on the coffee table in front of me, and at the exact moment of the jump scare it started sparking and billowing out smoke, causing it to fall on its side and roll over onto the floor where it continued to zap. The timing on it was insane, I picked it up and in one swift movement fastballed it into the wall where it afterwards sat quietly. I was left unnerved for the remainder of the film. The ending that showed the protagonist was trapped alone for eternity was just the icing on the cake. I think about it every so often.
