Well, sir, upon sighting the television & film board, I naturally gave the order to start a Sharpe thread. That's my style, sir.

Making Sharpe threads on /tv/...now that's soldiering.
>>
>>215144119
Oh I know this show
"MAJOR LENNOX ANSWERED WITH HIS LIFE, SIR!"

Yeah I see that clip all the time in my recommended
Is this like Breaking Bad for historical flicks?
>>
Ah, very good Simmerson. But tell me, again, whose colors was it?
>…the Kings?
AND I SHOULD LIKE TO KEEP IT THAT WAY YOU SIMPERING FUCK. YOU LOST THE KING’S COLORS, HE’S WALKING AROUND BUCKINGHAM ALL COLORLESS, HE’S ALREADY HAD TO CANCEL DOZENS OF PORTRAITS, HE LOOKS POSITIVELY GHASTLY. MEANWHILE, I’VE GOT A BEEF WITH NAPOLEON SO BIG I COULD BRUSH IT WITH DUXELLE AND WRAP IT IN PUFF PASTRY, HE MAKES ME SO BLOODY MAD I WISH A COALITION OF INTERNATIONAL BANKERS WOULD JUST SHOW UP AND BUY ME AN ARMY SO LARGE I’D GIVE HIM THE FULL NELSON WORSE THAN HORATIO DID AT TRAFALGAR! (THOUGH NOW WE CALL HIM HALF-NELSON) BUT YOU KNOW ME, I CAN’T COMPLAIN, AT LEAST IM NOT SENT TO RUN A TAKEOVER ON SOME INDIE COUNTRY IN THE FAR EAST. WHICH REMINDS ME, I’M SENDING YOU TO SPAIN. MAYBE YOU’LL GET SOME COLOR THERE, BECAUSE IF YOU LOSE ANY MORE, I’LL HAVE THEM STICK A SPEAR THROUGH YOUR ANUS AND YOUR PALE ASS CAN BE THE FLAG OF SURRENDER! NOW GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY OFFICE!
>>
>>215144119
>I did not lose the King's colours, it's not true! It's bullshit! I did not lose them [throws water canteen] I did not. Oh hi, Sir Wellesley .

Not exactly.

>>215144196
It's based on a book series. Show makes things more romantic but is enjoyable. The book is brutally honest about what shitbags both the common soldiery and noble officer corp were during this time.

Sharpe is fun but honestly, I think it would have better if it was about a french soldier. Following a Sharp style french soldier in the Grande Army, we could have travel across Europe, see more distinctives battles and campaigns. They could have had moral dilemns about loyalty while Napoleon become more and more ambitious, when he exiled and come back, explore different political factions, show the crime and the greatness.
You don't even need to be creative, there was a lot of actual soldiers that acted like IRL Sharpe : Lassale, Pelletier de Chambure... Just change the name a little so it is'nt too obvious.
Bongs only saw the boring part of Napoleonic wars (exept for the war at sea. That part is kino). Even Waterloo is a meh tier battle compared to Eylau, Wagram or Leipzig.
It's sad the french have no money to make movies or do it only for themselves so we are forever condemned to let the anglo-saxon speak to the world about Napoleon.

Nobody likes Napoopan, sorry. Not even the french, what with him being an italian mutt and all.

The guy who played Wellesley in the first couple of episodes was so much better than the guy who replaced him and then also when Brian Cox left the show it became shite. Rifles=Eagle>>>>>everything else.

>His spymaster of the day is there
>As is a weasel-looking British officer or French lord
>"Sharpe, this is Lord Fucksworth, who has a dangerous mission for you - you will be enormously outnumbered, deep behind enemy lines with no support, oh and Major Ducos is around so watch out for him."
>Lord Fuckworth insults him for being a poorfag, but reluctantly accepts that this is Wellington's best man
>"As ye like, sir. Ah'll get it dun."
>Cut to Sharpe and Patrick discussing the mission
>"It dun maek bloody sense, Patrick. Why do they need us to tek this castle/find this woman/get these supplies/uncover this plot?"
>"Oh, surely as the fields o' Ireland are green, sir. God has a plan for us, sir."
>A few battles happen on the way to the objective
>Oh, look. It's an attractive young woman who keeps looking at Sharpe suggestively
>They fuck
>"Look, Patrick! It's the thing we're here for!"
>"LOOK OUT, SIR."
>Lord Fucksworth appears and betrays Sharpe
>Ducos appears
>"HON HON HON! Bamboozled you again, my nemesis."
>"Bloody Ducos."
>Battle happens
>Patrick goes "AAAAAAAAAHHHHHH BANG" with the 7-barrelled gun
>Wellington arrives
>"Well done, Sharpe! You've done it again."

>>
>>215146707
the brits aren't exactly known for their oral hygiene. specially back then

I think the show is good up to the Sharpe getting cucked saga and then Sharpe cucking Sweet William. I even like the stupid Aztec cult episode because the love interest of the week is great.

That was just the style at the time.

The guy who chose that electric guitar strim for the show is a fucking genius. It seems so out of place for the 1700's yet it's so iconic to the show

When I was a kid I had a Risk set that had metal gamepieces. Anytime I saw a random Sharpe episode on tv I would spend hours staging battles with them and locations made from Legos.
>>
is the sharpe universe entirely self-contained? Blackadder/hornblower are not at all related, right? For some reason I always link them together as uk historical shows produced around the same time
