Why was it so controversial? Is it because j*urnalists feared they may one day be held to account?
>>215151944You know what makes things controversial? Stupid fucking people! This movie is hilarious and definitely in my comedy section.
>Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times gave the film four stars out of four and wrote, "Seeing this movie once is not enough. The first time is for the visceral experience, the second time is for the meaning." On his television show, his partner Gene Siskel agreed with him, adding extra praise to the scene featuring Rodney DangerfieldCertified kino
>What am I, a bad guy?>Do I ever ask you to *honk* my friends? >If it wasn't for me you'd still be slinging hash in that shithouse and fucking your boss o.o
>>215152265WHEN I GET UP THERE SHE WONT SEE MY FACE FOR AN HOUR
>>215152192>the second time is for the meaningHe couldn't catch it the first time? It's subtle as a brick
didnt tarantula throw a hissy fit about this movie script or something?
>>215152285This movie really goes hard
>>215152403its a bit intense to take it all in on the first watch anon stop being so autistic
>>215151944it's been a while since i've seen it but i remember it being absolute shit
>>215152192Great take, I'm gonna read his review now. When I saw this the first time it blew me away and finding out it made Quentin seethe made sense since it is better than anything he has every made and will make and makes a mockery of his career before it even started

>>215151944it wasn't just the violence, but the ending jail scene makes people uncomfortable because it shows how quickly things can get out of control. they also didn't like watching RDJ get killed

>Rodney Dangerfield wasn't given any lines, Stone just told him to play the Father From Hell he was born to play this role imo
>>215151944I was a teen when this came out, to me it was a bit of a bait and switch. I expected a serious drama played relatively straight, but the first scene and the credit sequence made it clear it was a gonzo black comedy. Oliver Stone was a prestigious director back then, and the advertising made it appear like a much more standard movie than it really was.
>>215154524Amazingly Based if true and just makes him more of a legend
>>215151944>Is it because j*urnalists feared they may one day be held to account?that is literally the only thing j*urnalists fear.
>>215155242the media satire aspect of NBK didn't really make a dent in the landscape at the time as far as I could tell. there was better satire of the media on the simpsons.>>215155242covid lockdowns made it clear that all they have to fear as far as being held to account by the public are some mean tweets.
>>215155363journalists get murdered all the time dude, they just rarely report on it in anything but local news because they dont want people to realize you really can just kill them.
>>215155428doubt
>>215155428>journalists get murdered all the timeNot nearly enough
>>215151944Tarantino was right about this movie
I like it because it made Tarantino cope and seethe
>>215151944This soundtrack goes hard as hell. Wore this CD out as a kid. I also spent years wondering what that song playing during the opening prison scene was (The Specials - Ghost Town)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PURNgMLOqA
>>215151944The message is kind of undermined by the fact that the killers are depicted as funny, badass, anti-heroes.
>>215151944A lot of graphic violence for the time.People thought it might cause a bunch of copy-catting. Going on a murder spree is a good way to get notoriety.
>>215151944i think the better question is why this shitty movie was every liked at all
I dunno, but it was a piece of shit.
>>215152403What is the meaning? I'm autistic.
>>215151944I forgot this existed. It's good but Pulp Fiction and Badlands make it forgettable
>>215156742that roger ebert makes sense to me because of the rapid-fire editing, too many little subliminal blips to catch in just one watch.
>>215156807*that roger ebert comment>>215156715the cinematography, the editing, the soundtrack, the dialogue, the black humor, the performances, the jail escape sequence and the good old ultra-violence
