self concious horror. modern horror directors are scared of sincerity. their movies play with concepts and string audiences along with jump scares over a placid storyline. they also have the big fuck you ending because they couldnt end on a whimper after all that build up. they probably learned this from Tarantino who has ended his last couple of movies with a big bang because he spent so much time playing around that he cant go anywhere else.

After watching a few of the biggest "elevated horror" movies from the last decade, I just feel disappointed with normie's low expectations. Back in the day, horror movies were able to have themes while also supplying interesting subject matter or visuals, and these kinds of movies focus one to the detriment of the other. The results rarely even feel like horror movies.
I don’t know about left but right has the most popular horror icon in the last 20 years

It's part of the wider trend of traumaslop which is a bunch of narcissist self-pitying millennial drivel where a character goes about feeling sorry for themsleves for 90+ minutes without learning anything
>>215169073What? Smile 2 has the main girl become more and more aggressive and unhinged as the movie progresses. The entire scene in the clinic is pure fun. The best comparison is probably Drag Me to Hell, where her moral degradation isn't enough to save her.

>>215166989Zoomer Horror. It Follows, Talk To Me etc. All of them have le deep analogy (generally muh trauma/grief), are visually dark and bland as shit, have no humour and are extremely long and feature a moment or two of extreme, but boringly shot, gore. Bonus points if the plots break down into a nonsensical creepy pasta derived mess too. Slender Man, The Empty Man and others all fit this bill.
>>215169208Why did demons save her from getting hit by a train?
>>215166989I'll start with Smile 2:Smile 2 is just a cruel movie. If i recall correctly, you have the girl who came out of rehab trying to make a come back and prove critics wrong, improve herself. The smile demon makes her see shit until it looks like she is a junkie again, doing embarrassing shit she can't control, making her look unstable, relapsing druggie and she tries to fruitlessly to fight it and overcome it but the demon thing is like overpowered and just fucks with her life, reputation, legacy, mental state, relationships until it decides to kill her in the worst way possible. Its too cruel imo because it doesnt follow the usual moral contract of cruel people face cruel fates. Just hard to watch. Like why killing or abusing a puppy in a movie can make one feel worse than a human dying. Idk if that makes sense.
>>215169159Smile 2 is literallymeslop, a subset of traumaslop.
>>215166989Those two movies aren't even similar. Why was pointing this out not the first post in your shitty thread?
>>215169260Typical anti-capitalist cunt. She owes money to the bank because she borrowed it in the first place. Nobody put a gun to her head, and the bank is just taking back what is rightfully theirs as collateral. She's very nice and polite to the gypsy cunt and makes suggestions about alternatives, but the puffed up "proud woman" throws it back in her face because she doesn't want to face reality. Then she begs this bank employee to make an exception for her about money that isn't even hers, or really her policy decision to make. Even though she obviously has no realistic prospects of not winding up in the same position next month even if she does extend the loan. She makes a scene and then blames the bank chick for her being 'shamed' and embarrassed. So like all entitled anti-capitalist cunts, she wasn't asking or begging at all, she was demanding and that fact is exposed when she's told 'no'.Fuck that old cunt. She deserves to be kicked out into the street, stepped over in the gutter, spat on and cursed by every passerby.
>>215167307>>215167220She got eclipsed by Kstew and Ella hard. Might as well as not been in that movie.
>>215166989The best horror was made by generations that actually experienced horror. Look up the biography of Christopher Lee, he was with UK Special Forces in WWII. Peyer Cushing starved as a boy.
>>215167316The fuck is Moonlight doing in this pic? That’s not even remotely a horror film or faux horror movie.
>>215171365>expecting someone making a soijak movie chart to actually watch moviesHe probably just went to letterbox or imdb and saw it was an A24 movie and added it to the list
>>215171271Smile 2 is like an allegory for mental health in a world of normies. You look unstable and nuts because you are dealing with a thing the normies can’t see or relate to. It wears you down and is unrelenting. It ruins all of your relationships and traps you into being alone and failing at every attempt to get out of its grasp
>>215171352
>>215171271People in old skool horror movies handle OP forces with self-sacrifice, especially known contagious or demonic forces, like in 'The Thing' and 'Fallen'. Zoomies wouldn't understand that.
>>215171466I can see what you are saying, but is that really the case? Is someone with bad mental health or mental illness just totally normal but they are reacting to weird demon shit hallucinations or are they just literally broken and their minds not the same? Are they a frightened normal person trapped in a mental prison and if only you could see them from the inside or is their mind just spaghetti and theres bad code being executed properly? Is a sociopathic killer a victim of their mental state or are they just executing the sociopathic serial killer code that they were dealt and thats who they are because it was evolutionarily beneficial? Where does the mind separate from the soul?
>>215166989These two aren't similar at all. Are you severely mentally ill or something?
>>215171647I have anxiety problems that snowball and have spiraled into unrelenting panic and insomnia. It made me pretty manic for a while and ruined my transcripts as well as reputations with teachers/students. I related to her a lot in this movie.
>>215171514Not a zoomie and I love the Thing, in which they are believed to have overcome by sacrificing themselves to stop it. They were able to counter attack it, find out kind of how it works and stop it from leaving their isolated base, (maybe?). A small triumph for their circumstances. The smile demon is just completely toying with its dinner pressing every pain point and there was no figuring it out just being tortured by it until its over. Definitely different than The Thing.
>>215171744>put gun to head>pull trigger>smile demon loses>can't spread to other people>winRAR is you
>>215171744At the beginning of 2 one of the previous movies characters knows how to stop it and tries to inflict it on a drug dealer but he fucks it up. They also come up with a hypothetical solution of having the host be medically dead and then brought back to life to stop it from spreading.
>>215171785>Demon makes you believe you killed yourself with no witnesses and cant spread it> You're actually on stage in front of thousands spreading it all over Thats basically how the movie went isnt it? Its been a while. Thats why it leaves a bad taste.
>>215166989its called 'all you fucking do is complain about shit on the internet, refusing any hope or positivity in life'i haven't seen either of these but I can tell the dogshit is your opinion, regardless of the quality of these films, genres and styles mutate and change with time and iteration, stop being an old ignorant fascist about change
>>215171897>realise if demons are real then so is God>pray to Jesushttps://youtu.be/pmEwZ2JJOUk?t=105
>>215166989RNG Horror stuff can just happen at random because you are aiming for an audience who is too stupid to notice logic holes or non-sequiteurs
>>215166989I call it Blumslop and I fucking love it. It's the movie equivalent of fast food.
>>215171744 I will elaborate on this by saying is it really a horror movie or is it a torture movie? If there is a movie about a puppy being strapped to a table and being slowly poked and prodded and hurt until it dies, is that horror? The puppy has no agency, its just going to die painfully. Thats kind of what Smile 2 feels like. The only option is to kill herself alone and that's the winning solution even if the demon could be in other people somewhere too? Like is that scary or is it like sadistic. I don't enjoy watching sadistic stuff, but I do like spooky movies. I guess its scary to think about the torture happening to you or someone you love but just feels like watching a sadistic scenario which is not a enjoyable movie experience.
weapons is dogshit. it gets a lot of leeway because of humor. Smile 2 can be retrospectively improved with a sequel that makes sense of the ending. Smile is still a decent film.
>>215171837>They also come up with a hypothetical solution of having the host be medically dead and then brought back to life to stop it from spreading.Wasn't that the smile demon fucking with her?
