I recently returned to the US after living abroad for many years. Even when I lived in the US before, I never watched much television. But now I'm living in a hotel and the tv is on a couple hours every day. There are just nonstop commercials with A listers selling some trash crap. I saw Johnny Galek selling a mobile gatcha game. Courtney Cox and the Phoebe actress too. I saw Samuel Jackson selling car insurance I think. Kaley Cuocou was selling something. I've lost track. But I don't remember it being like this.

After that show ended in 2004, he got one off TV episodes, and recurring but nit regular cast member parts in a bunch of TV shows, including The Unit, and What About Brian, until Mad Men came along in 2007, and he still did parts in other TV shows while starting in Mad Men, along with bit parts in movies. After Mad Men ended, he tried starting in some movies, but it didn’t stick, so he just did a bunch of TV shows, with recurring roles, and bit parts in movies. He has literally not been out of work regularly since almost as long as he started acting, or after Mad Men ended.

The issue with tv shows is that they are several hours worth of material and they run and rerun them several times, these characters have a stronger hold in the audience's imagination, I suppose. A strong typecast character for an actor in a movie can be countered by him playing a second strong but different character in a different movie. Otherwise, what kind of movie role could even compete with 9 seasons of George Costanza?
