Those who have seen the tv-series knows exactly what will happen. Sure, its comfy and sexy, but it still unsatisfying to "relive" the tales you've heard before. And it spoils the whole tv-series for those who haven't seen it. I just don't get it.

>>215187690the first act introduces a lot of stuff that later becomes important in the Return. of course, it wouldn't have a payoff for 25 years and at the time might have seemed like it would never, but you can tell Lynch was already dreaming about where it might go. the rest of the movie is just to have a closer look at Laura's life. we hear a lot about that in the show, but we never really see it, and given central Laura is to the whole show, it's nice to actually get a glimpse into her life. beyond the narrative perspective, it's a psychological horror about a tortured girl and her abuser, and it does that very well. Sheryl Lee and Ray Wise are both excellent actors, and it's a really emotionally wrenching movie. the story isn't new, but it makes you feel the horror of the story much more viscerally than you do just being told snippets in the show.
>>215187690It's rape in film form. The film rapes you. Satanic black magic. Sick shit.

Art doesn't need a point
I've always been fascinated by the subforumistic proto-theory which declared Twin Peaks being an pseudo-exhibitionistic postmodern artpiece by a multiserial rapist publicly declaring his own jailbaitian occupation, primetime airing a vague demonstrating of his own sadistic molestual relationship with his own daughta, fueled by his own blood writing and directing an inboxed torture-flick about a girl being stylistically Laura Palmered but in a wooden box instead of a plastic bag. To me Fire Walk With Me all another Epstein-tale about the royal freakshow and their incestual abusiveness.

>>215188463umm just look at her huge rack and the lesbian scenes?
as always, lynch threads are the most schizoprenic and vile in the whole of /tv/, sad
So that we could get that bed scene, where she's on the telephone whilst smoking a cigarette, in threadbare lacy underwear, spreading her legs wide in the air. I don't even remember anything else in the movie, just that scene. It makes you empathise with her murderous sexual abuser - as you'd 100% do the same to her. Thanks you David.

I hate this movie. >>215187690it was supposed to be the first of a trilogy that would tell a complete story on its own

Ok, how the fuck did Laura not get that her daddy had been raping her since she was 12?Did she really think this "bobbie"-character could crawl through her window without getting seen or heard by anyone on the street every day for 6 years??? how does that make sense?
The biggest unanswered question is always the "would". I never see anyone publicly answer it. Lynch has manage to constantly avoid it. I'm talking about the would, if you were Leland, would you?I wouldn't but I also wouldn't blame anyone who would (given it had passed legality). That's my answer and I stand by it unless someone else convinced me I shouldn't. Because it's either the would or certain death, and people really underestimate certain death as an option.

It bombed, commercially and critically. It killed Twin Peaks for decades until Showtime decided to throw a bag of money at Lynch. It wasn't until Lynch cultists figured out how to use social media that anyone thought it was good.

There's no point. Art is fundamentally pointless.
>>215187690It always fucks me up when I remember Laura Palmer was supposed to be 16. All the high school characters look like they're in their twenties, so I always think of them as college aged. All the shitty whore behavior is a sad, but also not too shocking if everyone is college aged adults. But they're not adults, they're high school teens, and when you really focus on that it becomes profoundly tragic. I wish they had cast younger looking people so that the point of them being young teens wasn't lost among all their very obviously adult appearances.

anyone who is an addict is familiar with that feeling that you are going to destroy yourself and it is inevitable. you don't want it but deep down there's a part of you that does want it, you want to hurt yourself, you want to accept what you feel is an inescapable fate. it's like you're stuck in a whirlpool and rather than panic while you try in vain to get some air, instead you can relax your body and your mind and get swept away into the obvious conclusion. it can really feel like an evil spirit pointed a finger at you and said, "YOU ARE MY NEXT TARGET. I CURSE YOU." even though you never did anything to deserve it. you are innocent deep down inside like anyone else.

When Lynch was a boy he witnessed a woman who had been violently raped wandering naked and crying down a street in his town. This moment deeply impacted him and informs all of his work. This scene is recreated in "Blue Velvet." It's reminiscent of Dostoevsky's childhood experience of seeing a coachman beat his horses, which comes up in his work repeatedly, most explicitly in "Crime and Punishment" when a group of peasants beat a horse to death. It's not just about the shattering of childhood innocence, but the idea that these sorts of things are always around you, hidden in deep dark recesses, in the places that you live with the people that you cherish. The capacity for evil stains humanity.
>>215194674idgi, did he or did he not do it?
Fire Walk With Me never reached the hights of Twin Peaks. The scene were Leland knock outs Maddie is one of the most disturbing ever, and not in FWWM came close even though it had more leeway with the R-rating and all that.

>>215194358Fire Walk With Me
>>215187690>sexy100%. It's very fappable. According to my ratings it's a C-level pic. I'll splizzlejizzle until "they" get me.
Short answer: it was supposed to launch a trilogy of films to wrap up the Twin Peaks or get the show uncanceled Long answer: Lynch was forever butthurt he had to self censor Laura being raped by her father and her self destructive spiral as a result combined with Lynch being pissy that fans preferred the wacky hijinks of the show over the more dramatic plotlines and for not supporting the show yet screaming for ABC after it was cancelled to get a proper ending. So the film was a huge "take that" to the fandom, especially those who wanted closure from the cliffhanger.
>>215197025>and for not supporting the showLynch is the one that abandoned it after the killer plotline ended. Only the ending to S2 brought him back in, but by then the damage was done. This is why Kyle, Lara, and Sherilyn refused to come back. (Kyle eventually changed his mind) They were mad at Lynch for leaving the show to dry.

>>215187690it was Lynch's original vision for how laura palmer's death was going to be revealed in the series, but the studio forced him to reveal that leeland was the murderer way too early and to humanize him in a way that the audience could still find him sympathetic because he was just possessed by BOB the entire time or even transformed into him. in FWWM you see that leeland rapes his daughter because he wants to and this is why BOB latches onto him rather than the other way around.

>>215194490good post, anon.i have watched this movie seven times in the past couple years (and seen the proper show a couple times, but mostly i rewatch this movie) and i consider it probably the best film i've ever seen. i often interrogate why that is because i am not a woman and i was never serially molested like Laura was - i suspect i was raped by my grandmother as a child based on hearsay and a fuzzy memory, but it's nothing i can prove. i find a lot of catharsis in Laura's story, if only because her suffering finally gets to come to an end and she finally gets to be with her angel. you've put your finger on something else that i resonate with, though, which is the addiction aspect of it, and addictive personalities are often linked with some kind of terrible childhood trauma. i don't think any movie renders that connection better than this one.

>>215187690This is an important film for for revealing Laura Palmer’s character. The film very well conveys the trauma and anguish Laura is experiencing. But the nude scene with Jacques was unnecessary. In season one, Jacques’s description of Laura’s last night is far more effective because it leaves everything to the viewer’s imagination. Moreover, the added scene creates a continuity problem: it shows Donna getting close to the main suspects and implies she could have informed the police as early as episode one. Yet in that same episode, Donna and James’s conversation in the woods makes clear that Laura didn’t know how much Donna actually knew about her secret life, which makes the timing feel inconsistent. Because of that scene the original actress refused to appear in the film, and the scene itself creates a plot hole.
