>writes, directs, produces and stars in certified kino in your pathhow does he do it, what's your favorite Kitano kino
Sorry I can't take the Takeshi's Caste guy seriously as a filmmaker
>>215188959Zatoichi, bit it's the only one i'be seen. I'f like the rest. I'm sure of it. I'd risk it for someone else, showing them and myself in a hired cinema if it was a swcret. Part of a scene where what it aluded to was applied and in play. Our reality.
>>215188959I think so far Kikujiro is my favorite, but I haven't seen all of his films
It’s weird how I actually hated Sonatine when I first watched it, but about a month later something just clicked, and wow, I was wrong. Even the main theme hits me differently now. Boiling Point is still my favorite though.
>>215188959KikujiroA Scene at the SeaKids ReturnFireworks
>>215188959for me it's his role in Ghost in the Shell

>>215188959>"Here's your certified kino aniki, dozo"
>>215189653his more recent films are not among his very best, but they're still pretty good
>>215188959Kids Return is a masterpiece. Can't believe it's just 7.4 on imdb, not that it matters but stillon the other hand I love the violence of Violent Cop and Boiling Pointnever cared about Hana-bi
>>215189653sadly, this is whole japanese cinema
>>215189836Not the same guy, but the Outrage trilogy and Ryuzo are obviously movies he didn't want to make to begin with, and it shows. It was a one (4) for thee one for me type of deal he struck with the producers while trying to find the money for Kubi (his "final" movie, he personally adapted from his own book).Except Kubi really isn't much better either.Making a Sengoku film with the same style of a Yakuza one and having all the warlords act as psychotic homosexuals sounds great on paper, but everything from the screenplay to the casting went wrong.
>>215188959But in Japan he is no person.
The Outrage movies are kino as fuck.
>>215190901Was this the one where the gangsters put a guy with a massive snake in a bathroom to torture him or something?
>>215190944Yes, but it's not really torture, it's just to spook him into making a deal with them.
>>215188959My top 5:1. Sonatine2. A Scene at the Sea3. Violent Cop4. Boiling Point5. DollsFireworks: decent but retreads old ground and isn't quite as good as its reputation suggests. Kikujiro: charming but a bit too long and unfocused for its own good. Brother: some great scenes but is let down by some of the acting and overall unbelievable nature of the story. Outrage 1 and 2: waste of time.Getting Any: pretty funny even though it comes off as a series of sketches instead of a coherent movie.Zatoichi: enjoyable but not particularly memorableI still need to see Kids Return.
Takeshi KinoSpeaking English:"Hello I would like to take this out please.""Thankyou."Taking the movie and editing the scenes, building a dream for his girlfriend.Satisfied by it.Polite man not attracting attention, passing by, passed over by priority willingly, locals more important. Apologises profusely for being short cents for an overpriced local delicacy, burgers. Two, one for him, one for an empty chair. He pulls the chair back, pushes it in. Puts the burger on the table. Sits on the opposite chair, takes a bite of his, looks around. Woman alone. He looks down, looks back. Puts the burger in front of her. Sits opposite. Treats her like she's his wife, daughter, someone to care for. Woman. She loses the look, looks around like for someone better to rescue her.He sees that. Finishes his burger. Wipes his mouth. Gives her $500."I'm not a hooker.""It's for possibility, sorry if I have stolen your company. I can protect you and send you somewhere nice and new. You looked sad, like me. I felt we were related: Lost the same thing... Not lost... Still trying."It's not good enough, he's a foreigner. Not her taste. He could be anything and not her man, or a man at all.He boards a plane. Smiles the formal asian smile. Pleased evident on face. A rarity, saying expression instead of exhibiting it.A girl sits beside him. He smiles without looking at her. They land, he's awake. Maybe he was the entire flight. Sitting there. Looking, seeing the back of the chair and his home, city, people, situations.2 months later in an unassuming apartment. Watering plants. Making his own food. Cuts his thumb chopping without looking.Looks at the blood.Flicks the knife in the air. Catches it backward. Combat look, but that not the intention. Just to prove he's... efficient? With or without problems. He visits somewhere less peaceful. Like already at war. Always at war. Serious with no place for pleasant outside (except) purpose.
>>215188959Takeshi's castle was the best. I miss it.
my top 5 would go Sonatine > AA Scene at the Sea > Hana-bi > Kikujiro > Kids Return. i've seen his first 15 movies and the only ones i wasn't a fan of were Brother and Outrage
