>>215190194I grew up with dialup BBSes, you sad pathetic yurotrash moron. While you were doing nothing more than eating "crisps" and watching the "telly", I was already interfacing with the digital world. You're a fat fucking inarticulate chinless british loser and you always will be. Go sign more of your aristocracy over to jewish bankers' drafts.
>no images to manipulate your brain>have to put all the important facts in a limited spaceSure they can still selectively display and omit news but it's way superior than modern news slop

I really despise this kind of petty nationalism. Do any of you people actually know what happened with Teletext? It was conceived of in the 70's when it would have been groundbreaking, but it didn't get released until the 80's, when it was considerably less so. The launch was delayed in America due to difficulties securing the license from Great Britain, so it was only released in certain markets and it was already kind-of obsolete, so it never saw widespread adoption. That's what everybody is flaming each other over, an obscure legal dispute about an obsolete technical standard invented in the Nixon Administration. What next? "LOL, British people can't into DTMF tones"? "Americans are confused by 50 hz TV transmission"? "This DVD region kills the Euro"? Why don't you guys take some of this passion and go use it to drop an atom bomb on one of the many countries that hates all of us equally and doesn't appreciate these petty little technological differences that we're arguing over.
>>215191633just a bit of banter mate, don't worry about it.
>>215191633honestly it's just interesting. i mean there was no guarantee the internet/the web would be 'the winner'.similar to how we also had a whole British computer industry of COMPETING computer systems, before everything became Windows PCs. even games consoles were different here (skewed Sega over Nintendo).maybe other countries had their own technology, networks, etc? i'd like to hear about them.
sexy eyes
>>215191633its just banter/shitposting among friendswe're all well aware who our real enemies are at the end of the day and none of us are going to become divided by some nonsense posted on a random 4chan thread
>>215191633That's a sharp observation that most people would miss. Would you say you are infuriated?
>>215190194Americans could understand and operate C-band satellite systems, I think they could handle teletext.
>>215190418I ‘member >downloads ascii porn at 14.4kbps
They shut down text television in my country a few months ago.
>>215190194We had BBSes, Videotext, and GUI based dial up services while you were still waiting for the requested Teletext page to come back around. For data heavy uses, we used plain text to get the information fast, and then used local tools to manipulate it. You were limited to whatever hundred or so screens of data your PTT decided was acceptable to the government. We could, and did, share anything we wanted.

great /x/ material in it's day had it not become obsolete so quickly with the internet could likely have churned out some kino creepypastas in my early days but too late now I guess as most /x/ is zoomers banging on about dumb esoteric shit and the like

>>215190220>UK/WORLD NEWSHuh, I wonder."Soccer" was very much in use until around the 90's, after which the other forms of football started to go out of fashion in the UK. Since then, the UK has tried to rewrite history in a bizarre attempt to present themselves as more eloquent than Americans.
