I got filtered, can someone explain it to me
>>215190392William S. Burroughs did a lot of drugs.
>>215190392I doubt anyone would get anything from this film without having read Burroughs' early work and researching his life. It seemed to me more of a fan letter to Burroughs than an adaptation of his work. An AI summary his life and of the events leading up to his novel Naked Lunch will likely clear up a lot.
>>215190392It's a movie that was based off the writer's heroin withdrawls and commentary on how society in the 40s and 50s did nothing to help addicts while at the same time being addicts themselves. It was also all over the place, so the movie had to put all of this together into an hour and thirty minutes.
>>215190392It's less a film about an unfilmable, experimental novel (Naked Lunch) & more a biographical take upon William S. Burroughs himself as viewed through the lens of Cronenberg's body horror style of storytelling.
>>215190392The subject of the film is a real life author and objectively terrible person. The film is an exploration of a diseased society where the famous and wealthy are utter degenerates who commit acts of unspeakable barbarity, and the author gets to join their ranks by sinking to their level
>>215190414>>215191395>>215192512why should I give a fuck about some pretentious pedo author's life and experiences?
>>215190392drugs are bad mmkay
He had this interesting writer trick to pretend that he's some sort of agent writing a report. Honestly a nice technique to get yourself to write something.
>>215190392William S. Burroughs nonced a lot of kids.
kek that bag of needles scene
ive done a lot of opiates but never heroin (stupid well adjusted life), I tried reading Naked Lunch and I felt it sorta simulated the sensation of thinking like a junkie
>>215193509because he was cooler than you
>>215193509>>215193736I don't see anything about this in his wikipedia article, is this scientologist propaganda?
he kills his wife and flees the country to do drugs and have gay sex
>>215190392>Exterminate all rational thought
Cronenberg is a hack. There I said it.
>>215194260I love him, but I also agreejews probably look at him the way white people look at Michael bay
>>215193970He literally wrote about it. Have you read anything he's written? He lived in Tangier for years in the 50s because he didn't stand out as a heroin addict who fucked boys.
it's great like all Cronenberg workkinda not for everybody though>I also prefer Dead Ringers and Crash to this film
>>215194288>>215194451Cronenberg definitely underplayed this a lot. Kiki in the movie definitely doesn't look underaged at all. He talks on the commentary track about how they avoided getting banned about the drugs (using fake drugs like the bug powder and no needles (except those in bag)), so this would definitely be over the line.
>>215190392>>215190473>>215192607The entire movie is about Lee/Burroughs coming to accept that he's gay and how killing his wife was the catalyst of his writing career. I can't still help but notice that Cronenberg was glazing Burroughs the entire time and making it sound like his wife was enabling his drug addiction and cheating on him as if Burroughs wasn't already doing cocktails of dope and frequenting gay bars in Mexico even before he "accidentally" killed her.
