Is it on the same level of all-time great "prestige" tv shows or was it astroturfed by some journalists?
>>
>>215193872
if you have to ask, you already know.
true prestige is self-evident and doesn't need group validation

Highly overrated, but has a few good characters. The dialogue is very R*ddit, also the show contains a lot of political opinion forming and overall, it's like /r/WallStreetBets R*dditor wrote the show.
>>
/tv/ hates it so obviously its one of the greats
>>
>>215193872
second guy from right is perfect for casting happy merchant meme
hated literary everyone in this movie
>>
There was a lot of walking and fiddling. I was expecting an explosion.
>>
Last prestige show, pure kino. A few browns got filtered but that's to be expected, better ending than Mad Men that's for sure
>>
>>215193872
All the characters are awful people but not even in an entertaining way. The literal murderers in Sopranos felt more likeable than these cunts.
>>
Yeah, though it has different strengths from, say, The Sopranos or Mad Men. It elevates Office-style ad-lib cringe comedy to a dignified art, or at least a mode in the service of art. Shots are often beautiful, better than many films from the same time, and no other prestige show that comes to mind can boast similar. Even though the plot becomes samey and drags at times, the writing demonstrates a depth and sophistication that warrants prestige status. Acting's top-notch across the board as well

>tightly written first season
>great actors playing mostly solid characters
>at some point around s2 e7 writing falls off a cliff, characters start acting like they're all written the same way
>show becomes episodic drama where they go to le fancy event and le big crisis almost happens and they walk in a determined manner and make a phone call and everything is solved by the end of the episode
>show starts fairly apolitically and devolves into le evil conservatives control everything
Yeah I did not finish this well dressed slop

It's better than prestige dross like Mad Men or Breaking Bad for the simple fact that it actually knows when to end, a tightly paced corporate drama devoid of filler compared to peers
>>
shiv has an incredibly fat ass even though her face is gross

dont remember much else about the show other than I AM THE ELDEST BOY

>Mad Men
I honest to GOD think the people overpraising this soap opera are just people who hate HBO for some reason and want someone else in the top 5. It has a few great episodes in the first three seasons but after they move to the new office it's the most repetitive garbage I've seen and I've watched The Shield
>>
i tried watching this today and i just can't it's so fucking boring
>>
>>215193872
overrated. It's a funny show and I would rewatch for the cinematography alone but every episode feels the same its just rich people screaming, going to events and making phone calls. Ending was kino though.
>>
Brian Cox is great and kinda carries the entire show
it's still pretty good after his character dies though

>girlboss cheats on her husband and ask for a open marriage in the wedding day

Somewhere through season 1 it clicked to me, its a comedy without a laught track. The shit got so much better.

It's ok but I wouldn't waste time on it. It's like Mad Men/Breaking Bad/The White Lotus with more plot/one liners from weird characters. The middle aged democrats that like those shows will like this. Every season replays the same loop like those shows so once you've seen the first season you've seen the rest. The family almost takes out dad but in the season finale they fail, repeat each season. So ultimately it's about how much you like the process. Are you interested in looking at a jewish main character for hours on your tv screen? There is nothing you will gain from watching this show. You won't learn anything and the entertainment value is equal to a random youtube video. Going for a walk will expose you to more thrills and more beauty.

100% correct net assessment. After a solid season 1 they turned the show into a stage for live-action twitter-esque zingers and le epic burns. Every character is irredeemably contemptible because the writers are millionaires who hate billionaires and who have never worked a single real job, and so have no idea what it’s like to work in a corporation or the meaning of anything finance related. Come for character-driven, adult drama and get pandering and slop instead.

It is truly a one of a kind show.
A great mix of comedy and drama.
One of my absolute favorites for sure.
>>

There wasn't anything better going on at the time and that was it's major selling point. I forgot I watched it until I saw your thread.
>>
>>215193872
depends if you include breaking bad in your list of "prestige"shows... if so then yes. if not then no.
>>
>>215193872
Probably a bit astroturfed but everything is. The Sopranos, Breaking Bad and The Wire are all overhyped to some extent.
I wouldn't watch any of them again.
>>
>>215193872
it's good, but it's worse than Golden Age Titans like The Wire, The Sopranos, Mad Men etc
>>
>>215193872
It's not even on the level of a prestige show.
>>
>>215193872
a show about jews outjewing each other
astroturf is the word
>>
>>215193872
It's not as good as The Sopranos/The Wire/Breaking Bad but it's still better than almost anything else that has come out recently.

>>215193872
It’s a sitcom people mistook for prestige drama because Brian Cox was absolutely determined to not be the worst thing about it.
>>
>>215193872
It's better than almost every other prestige TV show, might even be the best if we exclude miniseries.
>>
Heavily astroturfed during the final season run. I binged the series and hated it, start to finish.
The vibe I got from this show was that pretentious brand of "WELL ACKSHUALLY, YOU AREN'T /SUPPOSED/ TO ENJOY WATCHING THIS, THAT'S THE POINT". As other Anons have stated, there is not a single likeable character in this.
It was marketed as a high stakes political drama with cunning and intrigue but the show is not nearly as clever as it pretends to be. The characters all do things on a whim for shock value, there are retcons and serious issues with direction.
By S4, the show is just insulting the viewers intelligence by illustrating that there was never any purpose to it. It barely registers as a parody, if it does, the message is "rich people bad", presented by rich people.

Camerawork/direction is hideous, they try to do the lofi shaky cam comedy thing to make it more heckin' awkward, doesn't work, the characters aren't.
>>
>>215197132
>parody
satire*
>>215196904
This may be true. Marketing department definitely presented a different product.

Whilst I don't think it was ever funny, with pointless vulgarity and awkwardness being the punchline everytime, I think they should have leaned more into the comedy than the drama
>>
>>215193872
Probably one of the worst shows I have ever seen. Its just quirky dirty humor 24/7.
>>
>>215193928
Isn't Tom also a spineless cuckold who only wins in the end because he literally agrees to be Madson's bitch up to and including telling Madison he would allow him to start an affair with Shiv to further humiliate him? And that the only reason Shiv hasn't aborted his baby is due to Tom point blank telling Shiv that he thinks she's lying about being pregnant meaning that even if she did get the abortion, unless she had video proof of the procedure, Ton would claim she was making it up?
>>
>>215197132
Why did you binge a TV show you don't like
>>
the last good HBO show
>>
>>215193872
It's the best show about business and finance by a long shot. Everything else that tackles that topic was pretentious and retarded (see Suits, Billions)
>>

>>215194221

>>
>>215197132
It works both as a family drama and as a business drama. You're probably too retarded to understand both of those stories because you think it's all random somehow
>the message is "rich people bad"
Yeah you're retarded. Rich people love this show actually, very popular with finance types
>>
>>215193872
I had heard a lot about it, so thought I'd give it a chance.
A few episodes in I realized I mixed it up with Severance, so I switched to that.
Severance seemed kind of interesting, but showed cracks around episode 3, then it god god awful the second season.
Watched season 2 as it aired and as soon as the episodes dropped.
Terrible show.
Succession seems better, but I'm not really motivated to watch it at this time, it seemed a bit dull, but it wasn't retarded like Severance.
>>
You want to be Roman or Ken, but you're more like Connor
>>
One of the best shows of the last decade. Never reaches the heights of Sopranos or Mad Men as a character drama, but it's better written than actual overpraised drek like Breaking Bad.
>>
>>215198376
nta but Mad Men is a show for bored housewives, the business side of the show is barely explored. It's all love triangles, brooding men and women's rights
>>
>>215198410
Connor is less of a loser than those other two, why wouldn't you want to be him
>>
>>215198430
It's a character drama. I'm sorry you got filtered. There's plenty of shows already out there with explosions and shit.
>>
>>215198453
Connor is an absolute joke who has achieved nothing and is loved by nobody, at best he's the least malicious
>>
>>215193872
I've heard great things about this show in general but I refuse to watch it solely because of one retarded dude who I hate was praising this show as it's hte best thing ever and was talking in references/lines from the show at one of the birthdays. I just can not watch the show cause it reminds me of that retardoid. I refuse to watch this no matter how good it is. I won't like it as much as Mad Men or similar shows anyway so why bother.
>>
>>215198503
>Connor is an absolute joke who has achieved nothing and is loved by nobody
I fail to see how this doesn't also apply to Kendall and Roman.
>>
>>215198570
Kendal and Roman, though they are crippled and not serious people, are capable of having partners who aren't just paid prostitutes. They also do have some degree of business acumen, while Connor is off on insane wastes of money like his political games.
>>
>>215198430
The business side of Mad Men is miles better than the business parts of Succession. Shut the door and take a seat may be one of the best episodes of television whereas the whole business plot of Succession can be boiled down to
>dude are we going to do the deal?!??
>uhhhh I don’t know, dad’s going to freak!
You were unironically filtered and now you prefer slop.
>>
>>215194389
his lecter was good, everybody else is cartoon evil shit
>>
>>215194183
Mad Men is atrocious.
>>
>>215193872
It's more consistent that any other "prestige show".
Most of those shows shit the bed in the final season.
Succession does dip a little in quality in the final season, but still remains good, right til the very end.
