For most media with nazis today you would be failing at media literacy if you couldn't see how they're trying to draw parallels between the nazis and literally any and all conservatives today, while specifically trying to exclude liberals from the same comparison. It is very rare that there is any attempt today to make out authoritarian elements in every party are similar to nazis while libertarian or anti-authoritarian elements are similar to people who fought the nazis. The idea of using nazis was that the entire audience would know that they were not like them, and whatever other elements were nuanced in the story, they were simply bad guys. People who were genuinely anti-establishment at that time could go on to say that the western system or the communist system was more similar to the nazi system than most people were willing to admit, and so the films were not representing reality in this way. But even they'd have to agree that the nazis in the films were representing something mythical, and it was something that the nazi system really was closest to.
