Why is he wielding two swords?
>>
One sword: good
Two swords: double good
You must be one of those NFL players for whom they dumbed down the show.
>>
He's just that skilled.

>>
He shouldn't be. His armor should be much cleaner, and Dawn should be as ornamental as it is deadly. Him dual-wielding with that awful choreography looked fucking retarded. This scene was when my hope for this series finally died. This and the battle between Robert and Rheagar at the Trident were the only ones that I really didn't want them to fuck up, and goddamn did they fuck it up.

its crazy it took them until the final season to do a decent fight scene and by then it was too late

Nigger There is nothing to fuck up, none of these things are actually in the books
>>
>>215213917
The fight itself isn't in the books, the people and weapons are. Dayne's never said to fight with two weapons, nor in any fight to my knowledge do they go into such a style. The entire scene is piss-poor and not true even to the snippet we read from Ned's delirium. It's a huge fuckup.
>>
>>215212737
Wasn’t he supposed to be one of the best Targaryen swordsman? He should’ve lopped off Ned’s head.
>>
>>215213974
Yeah great, so once again bookfags are whining that something that only ever existed in their heads was "ruined by actually making it real.
>>

What part of "we didn't see the fight itself but we did see the leadup" do you not understand? It wasn't made real because it wasn't genuine to the source material. Imagine being so stupid you can't even comprehend fucking ASoIAF, this shit is made for retards like you.

actual serious I will fuck you up with one sword swordsman here, its in the name swordsman there is an s after the d. if you are better than the other man with a sword if you have two he is already dead, now we could discuss the martial prowess of ned and his men and how armor and tackling plays a role in all of this but dual wielding swords is very viable if you know how to play to kill and not just do stances like youtubers do, japanese I think used two swords regularly, as swordmanship there was more of a tradition than the necessity of defend yourself with anything you can get like in europe. its more simple. dont (you) me, peasants.
>>
>>215215295
only mushashi used two swords bro
>>
>>215215332
remember those videos of what appears to be russian young adults swinging longswords like crazy and fighting one another like that and get all cut up? against an opponent like that, crazed up his ass I would like to have two swords, one for blocking from whatever direction his suicide attacks come from then strike with another one. but that is in an controlled situation like the duels musashi had, which kind of proves my point. in real medieval battle you would most likely need to worry about projectiles, making anti piercing armor and shield more important than have two swords to kill one single type of opponent. but you can use two swords in a fight, thus making it unfair to your opponent if you know what you are doing which is the point of fighting, being unfair and surviving. fuck I said dont (you) me cause I would have to reply
>>
>>215215653
a single slash from a zweihander or a katana would put whatever wild dualwielding craziness to rest with a single powerful unparriable strike at a range where no counterattack could be possible though

no retard
>dw is viable because musashi
imagine being an ancient swordsman explaining whole technique behind it and what's the common mistakes and mdoern retard now thinks you can use 2 full sized swords as dual-wield to fight
in reality, especially in that scene, he would die to literal 1 guy with single strike on one of these swords. If he flipsthem like that, he literally have 0 grip on them and anything that strike those swords when they're in motion and not in stance to hit will straight up disarm him. To swing like that you use momentum, gravity and literal 1 finger to fling the blade around it.
Other rpoblem is lack of force. There's no way to inflict slashing wound that would be deadly like it's shown in that scene. And if the group decided to attack at one, you could block, disarm and imaple the fucker easily. The entire problem with dual-wielding in real lfie was lack of force behidn hits while you not only need to coordinate your swings but also you gonna get tired extremly fast. And then it takes your basic sword technique of straight up overhead strike
only viable option is blaming it on fantasy where his attacks and stamina are much stronger and camera doesn't really show the diffirence in speed and power. But then again, you could do literal 1:1 knight of dawn using his actual, told to be magical, 2h sword and none would complain. He would also had a way better chances agaisnt group of enemies due to sweeps and reach

yes, that's why out of multiple weapons legionnares had, sword was the last one to eb drawn after pilum spam didn't do the job
sure there was a lot of swords in medieval times, but not THAT much like movies like to show
>>
>>215215733
you don't need aktana or zweihanders, your simple sword retards had there was enough
all you had to do was strike the sword when in non-combat motion to disarm him. Especially if you use both hands to swing. And since you're aiming at hsis word, not himself, you're not in danger of being hit
>>
>>215212737
Because writers are fat losers who sit home and write and they have never done any physical activity in their life.

So they write on the paper "he was double wielding because he was such a badass" because in their mind it looks cool. But then a stunt choreographer has to deal with it and it always look stupid, because it doesn't make any sense.
>>
>>215216089

>why archeological sites has swords in them instead of pikes or axes
let me ask you this: why archeological medieval tombs usually have heavy decorated armor plates or depictions of those on sarcophagus
or better, why murals and pictures of battles have diffirent weapon sets than those incldued or depicting specifically named people, like kings, royalty and other big figures

>>215216089
>yes, that's why out of multiple weapons legionnares had, sword was the last one to eb drawn after pilum spam didn't do the job
The fuck? The pilum was thrown at the charge, it was used to disrupt the front ranks. They fought exclusively with their swords in melee combat. You're a complete fucking moron if you think the sword wasn't used throughout history as a dedicated weapon for MULTIPLE different cultures. The Roman Empire is simply the most famous and largest of the time. Genuinely wherever the fuck you heard this shit about swords not being used in meaningful quantities, they're a complete moron.

In the novels, this particular duel is never depicted. The lead-up to it is, from the perspective of a delirious Ned before his execution (I believe, it's been years). But regardless, I believe at one point it's mentioned there are Braavosi that fight using a small parrying knife in their offhand at some point, but certainly there's never any major fight that's ever depicted with a dual-wielding enemy that I remember.

You probably read some article intended to dispel the notion that swords were ALWAYS used and instead took that to mean swords were NEVER used. They were, extensively, for thousands of years.

YES IT WAS. The gladius was the primary weapon of the Roman soldier. You mentioned pilum, which were fucking JAVELINS that they threw into enemy ranks before piling in and fighting with SWORDS, not with SPEARS throughout much of their history. You unabashed fucking RETARD

pugio and alter gladius and spatha, as stated by romans themselves, were a sidearm and not main weapons
javelin, was the main weapon they entered battle with and used. It after volleys from bows and pillums enemy was still there, then they went again with pilum spam, sued pilum as a shortspear and then used gladius when enemy was too close for pilum to be used effectively

I never said the Roman Empire was part of medieval times, the idiot that claimed swords were never used as a primary weapon didn't make a claim about the timeline. It's indisputably false to claim that no organized armed force ever used swords as the primary weapon. It was an extremely versatile weapon usable in a variety of scenarios. It was a very common weapon and even primary for several cultures throughout human history.

If you lose, you typically die, or are irreparably maimed.

Imagine the progression of skateboarding, if you died or were deeply maimed 70% of the time you failed to do a cool trick.
There wouldn't be any advanced amazing tricks.
It would all still be simpler more humble street focused tricks instead of huge vert.

no yeah romans used the gladius to defeat phalanxes their writers mention that alot this idea spear lines were the best thing ever was defeated a few hundred years after it was invented and the sword carried the day from that time until muskets and even then the sabre still saw use on horseback. pound for pound the sword is the greatest fighting implement ever invented

I'm not going to comment on the effectiveness of Nitenichiryuu, but it is a fact that Musashi's career is inflated, and while we know he was a very adept swordsman we also know he won more than a couple duels by cleverness rather than being the most skilled.

In the books there's a lot of interpretive room.

It seems like maybe the baby (still not 100% confirmed but almost surely Jon, maybe some other contextual modifiers) was maybe born at and kept at or moved to Starfall, while Lyanna was kept at or returned the Tower of Joy.

Lyanna was separated from the child in the hopes that Ned would go after her, and not the baby first, giving the baby a better chance at survival.
If the Kingsguard slayed him and his party there, or they were defeated and fled, then it would give them even more time to move or protect the child.

Ned then takes Arthur Dayne's legendary sword Dawn to Starfall and ransoms it for the baby, as well as an agreement to protect the child with a story about it being Wylla's.
Ashara is ambiguously in love with Ned, and makes a plea to raise the child as her own with him, which Ned refuses, so she commits sudoku after he leaves.

The Daynes despite Ned having killed their heroic son, see this act as deeply honorable, and name the new heir to the house after Ned.

maybe historically, but he gives the example of Nasir in Robin of Sherwood of how it can't work even in fantasy entertainment.
he claims they always cut away: they never actually SHOW him draw his swords in one shot, because the actor couldn't physically do it.

>>
>>215217632
The books are trash the author couldn't be othered to finish, and you are a midwit who took the bait.
The show was always well produced slop, and most genuinely smart people realised that at the time.
>>
>>215217945
>In the books there's a lot of interpretive room.
No. It has just not been properly explained yet, like 90% of the mystery boxes that gurm has chucked at the wall to see what sticks.
>>
>>215218409
I wouldn't really call it a mystery box. Ned had 7 men to 3, the thing that made it impressive is that the Kingsguard killed 5 of them. Mystery box would be like what does the magic horn actually do, where did it come from, etc.
>>
>>215218439
We don't know any details of what happened, and speculating about what happened is the whole appeal.
If we ever did find out what happened, as we did in the show, the appeal would inevitably dry up.
That makes it a mystery box.

It is depressing that nearly 20 years after Lost, people still have not grasped this very basic point.

>>
>>215218520
I have to respectfully disagree. When I think mystery box, I think something intentionally designed to raise questions, whose questions are further answered with more questions. Ser Arthur Dayne's battle with Ned Stark at the tower really wasn't designed as something intended for us to ask questions about, but just to imagine how it played out in our heads. It's like a lot of the War of Power in the Wheel of Time, it's things we HEAR about but isn't explicitly shown.

you're the retard here. If real-life conditions are used, actually griping a sword with both hands gives you better chances at fight than your dual-wielding faggotry
By better I mean it's between 1% chance and 5% chance because you still gonna get fucked by a gank squad no matter what melee weapon you gonna use. At least with single sword using both hands you wont be easily disarmed and you can actually block any single strike. in real life conditions 99% of you scrubs would die within the first seconds of any encounter you have, while there is 1% who not only can fight with anything against anything they can also use two swords, which is just a step up from a sword and a knife, both tactically and in ability required. also this thing about fighting dirty, that is my point from the beggining. it is expected from a scrub with one sword to try to grab you. can you poke him before him and his friends do? you say using one sword like your opponent is using is better, somehow it gives you a better chance, while actually one handed sword fighting is an equalizing ground, good for scrubs like you. would you mind if I used two swords while you used one if we dueled using plate armor? because if you accepted that I would laugh on your face saying you are already dead. and yes faggot I would accept you using a two handed longsword, technique doesnt change much with scrubs. but the point is, do you think you would be in advantage using one sword against an opponent using two swords? because if the man knows how to use them its over for you. but I think the point you are making is a real medievel battle with someone using two swords, thats depends on so many things that the point should stay within duels or duel like battles like dayne's. again, are you in advantage with one sword against a guy wielding two using plate armor? you are not if the dude knows what he is doing.

cool. he probably feinted and pierced a lot of the guys using plate armor, and sliced the rest. or, the sword was two handed and he did the same but with the realism >>215219106
wanted. I replied to this anon >>215219820
instead of him, but the answer still applies. hollywood cant handle a man fighting using both hands with one sword with technique, or one man with two swords for that matter.

No, Arthur Dayne was specifically mentioned to have used a large greatsword.

>in real life conditions 99% of you scrubs would die within the first seconds of any encounter you have
in 99% of conditions you would suck a nigger cock. Does it change anything? nope you retard. it's not like we had centuries of people writing their experiences inw arfare and saying that this specific way of fighting is useless outside duels, and it's niche even in duels. You or me not being a medieval swordman doesn't change the thing about knowing facts and having knowledge about shit that happened. Now go to football fans and tell them that they cannot talk about 1st league matches because they're not A rank players themselves, retarded faggot
rest of your faggotry is pointles to comment. If we apply real-life experience, no matter how godlike you're with swords, you're not winning agaisnt a gripu who is also experienced in combat aka Ned's wraiths.
And if you even hold a sword and swing it for more than 20 seconds, doing tricks like in the shows would not only tire you to hell very fast, but also there's way less force behind your strikes. And your fucking strikes are very limited and predictable, while easily countered by a common, best known by practically everyone strategy of using your overhead slashes to both attacks and parry incoming strikes
oh my bad I forgot, you would get disarmed instantly when using those fancy tricks with balancing your swords around your fingers with 0 fucking grip, retarded faggot. So yes, having a single sword where you can apply all your force and you cannot be easily disarmed is way better even in this situation. It's like pistol is better than sword but it doesn't matter because you're getting shelled to your death anyway
now get the fuck otu and stop talking about thing you have no idea about, retard

you're not poking anyone in the neck unless you fight a literal lifeless doll
it's funny to read such a cretin, who doesn't even recognize why overhead smashes are used here, because it provides all the offensive and defensive advantages, while dual-wielding guy is forced into defensive stance, while prone to unbalancing. You cannot block or parry strong attacks with your companion weapon yet alone another longsword. Unless your enemy is a teenager and you're a literal hulk so your single arm have more power than his both hands, gravity and whole body propelling the strike

a minor force is capable to redirect a major force enough to change the outcome of a battle in seconds, but I wouldnt expect you literal dishonourable coward peasants to understand, on the contrary you will think of force above technique above all else, while being weak yourselves. while men like the mountain are a rarity. you are peasants.

IIRC Arthur Dayne was played by the show's swordfight choreographer, who had been part of the production team since season 1. He got a cameo and wanted to use two swords.

No, in the novels dayne, the two sword guy in the op, uses a two handed longsword called Dawn. Its functionally westeros Excalibur. Pure white like milk, made from a falling star, even stronger than the magic valyrian swords every noble house wants, they even put the falling meteor star on his houses sigil. And only the sword of the morning can wield dawn, and he has to be proven worthy. Its why his name in the series is arthur.
>>
>>215214005
Ned got lucky. Also such a retarded way to fight. I would like one show or movie where the characters use spears and light shields and work as a team. Also a show where archers and Skirmishers rekt an entire army.
>>
>>215221135
chi is kind of a real thing because the mind has power over the body but if it doesnt lead to an effective strength or technique move its useless to think and act about. training anything leads to more chi I guess.

Dawn is Lightbringer. It’s pretty blatant.

>>
>>215221775
Seems a bit unfair that dual wielder is forced to stand with his back to the wall, and neither side seems to be allowed to move from that straight line.

Like yeah no shit there's nothing you can do against a greatsword when you're forced to stand in one spot and the other guy can just cover the entire area of combat with every swing.
