I legitimately, no contrarianism, prefer it to NY. Way more fun movie, I do wonder why it gets so much shit
>>
>>215233779
It's cringe and doesn't have the cool factor of the original.
>>
>>215233779
I like them both. But for different reasons. You're not wrong about LA being way more fun.

NY is overall the better movie and LA is almost a reharsh of it EXCEPT for the objectively better ending.

Anyone else does this?

I watched LA first bc of cable and loved how fun it is. Watching NY after was disappointing bc the goofiness was what made me want to go back to this universe in the first place. I wonder if any other directors have done something similar and remade their own movie with a completely different tone; seems like it would be very difficult to pull off bc of audience expectations.

Evil Dead trilogy.
Raimi gets a pass but Carpenter gets shat on.
L.A. is underrated and only let down by the ropey fx.

la is a remake of ny with a much bigger budget. and yes la is a better movie. if he replaced that lame mexican with isaac hayes then LA would be heads and shoulders be the recognized one.
>>
Agreed.
The shitty cgi is so primitive that I can't even hate it.
>>
>>215233779
only morons hate this film. they're incapable of grasping irony. NY is all set-up, LA is the punchline.

because it's a more cringe version of the same fucking movie. it's literally just the same movie a second time

That's why. It has one of the best endings of all-times, doughimmer.

I've wanted to cut Evil Dead I, II, and Army of Darkness into something coherent, but I'm too busy lately.

To me, New York had the better villain.

The Duke > Cuervo Jones
>>
>>215237062
That's the best one and everyone knows it. Those who want to be seen as deep say that the original was better. Heck, I think Part 3 is way better than the first one, but no one is ever going to touch the magic that happened with 2.

>NY is overall the better movie and LA is almost a reharsh of it EXCEPT for the objectively better ending.

> NY: Better overall atmosphere, they obviously didn't film in New York, but used some dilapidated neighbourhood to film in? Also James Cameron did a lot of New York matte paintings.

> LA : The sets look arguably worse , most like like they are back lot sets. The atmosphere isn't quite as good. The early 90's CG effects looked kinda bad then and still look bad. It's the same story structure as the first movie with a few different twists. In some ways the plot is better than the first and it does have a better ending. I thought the score was pretty good. Overall it feels like a 'larger' budget B-movie. I still like LA.

TRUTH
I merely like parts of it and that's enough.

It’s the only good part of the movie, maybe the surgeon scene as well. Overall EfNY is better, more tight and focused, and better production design as well.

It's a self-aware 1990s retread of the original. Not bad but NY is better
>>
>>215233779
Rare based take. LA is absolutely better. Better stunts, bigger budget, and more fun overall.

NY had the original aesthetic down and more of an initial element of mystery, but fell flat on the action and pacing and shoestring budget.

>>215237033
>once you figure out this place, it's really not so bad

>HORRIBLE CGI
Eh... Product of it's time for 1996. CGI and FX in the mid and late 1990s was still in it's awkward teen level stage. ID4 won the the Oscar for FX that year and it was still blowing up miniatures and using practical costume/animatronics
https://youtu.be/vjFG-4Ge668?si=E0MGXNbbz6CIZuwv
So bad CGI or dated CGI/FX from decades ago is fine. The real BS is just cheeping out on it now. Being if you don't have the budget then scale it down.
>>
>>215234083
So do you play the first scene after he enters new york in escape from ny, then the first scene after he enter l.a. in escape from l.a. and so on?
>>
It rocked
>>
my issue with these movies is that they're absolutely genius but they're too short. Same thing with Soldier. Kurt Russell is an amazing actor but he doesn't get enough time to shine.

the isolated, cozy, yet spooky and hellish atmosphere of NY is almost impossible to beat. LA just looks like an open air prison in the shit way compared to the "quarantine city" feeling of the first. more of a feeling he's going into some kind of zombie apocalypse no-go zone rather than the ghetto like the sequel

there we go, I knew you were indian. you probably dont even know what either city looks like. a movie called escape from ny or la shouldn't have locations from ny or la? walk in front of a train like your brother
>>
>>215240142
it wasn't NY, it was a prison made out of the ruined shell of NY. that's the whole point. he also lands on top of the WTC and doesn't exactly have time to go visit broadway or central park while he's trying not to run out his clock and die to some bespoke military virus
>>
NY has the godlike 80s New York rot atmo, mixed with nostalgic 80s urban atmo. Words cannot describe it. But when a heli circles over centrla park with some skyscrapers in the bckground, you just know it.

LA has the godlike urban post apoc hat was NEVER rivaled by anything. The entire set feels liek Fallout came to life in a good way. Its also often overlooked how fucking chaotic neutral Snake really is....as a MAIN CHARACTER. Let this sink in. You never EVER get characters liek this anymore.
>>
>>215233779
It feels like the end of an era of filmmaking
>>
NY has some iconinc moments, sure. But LA has classics. Road to the Stars jingle. The " thought you'd be taller" meme. The almost prophetic conflict. Che as a villain. The surfing. Th basketball. Holy shit it never ends. And the 11/10 ending? Holy MOLLY. I modeled parts of my life after that character. I do appreciate though that NY Snake is rougher, has a cooler outfit, is more somber and the simple cassette ending is, while not as impactful as LA, simply cooler.
>>
I want Escape from Earth, with my head canon script.

>South America obliterated the US
>in the new wasteland an old Snake is forced on his last mission
>capture a working US ICBM silo to destroy the remaining South American occupation forces
>in the end, the silo is actually to be revealed a space port
>Snake leaves the godforsaken wasteland of the former US into space
>>
I copied several of Snakes mannerisms into my average life

>scan women from top to bottom whenever i meet them
>"The more things change, the more they stay the same"
>urban camo pants
>"<insert position> of what?"
>"Fuck you im going to Hollywood...!"
>>
It is without a doubt one of the worst movies I've ever seen and I like NY. Granted I generally don't watch actually bad movies, but still.

Escape from NY could have really used a gritty late 80s sequel, the original is kinda hokey and could have been improved upon in the ultra violent Robocop phase of Hollywood. LA is okay but mostly too silly and also not many people knew what Escape from NY even was to justify an ironic late addition
