You can't have a true conclusion in a story that relies on time-travel for its drama. Time-travel makes the conflict trivial and endless, since the villain can always jump through a time portal and undo the hero's accomplishments. It's like the Terminator franchise where Skynet is sending new assassins back to hunt the Connors again and again, and it doesn't matter if the Connors win because another robot will be sent back through time in the next film.

If Nosgoth's situation was hopeless, then there would have been no point manipulating Kain into killing William, both with soul reavers from their own time, and Moebius certainly wouldn't have observed Raziel accidentally repairing the sword in-person, when he actually could have died if Raziel had realised the significance of the distortion around them. The Enemy needed these things to happen, but they have the advantage because the elder god is outside of time, so can give Moebius instructions on what to do. The ending of Defiance almost makes it so LoK doesn't need finishing: Kain now knows about the elder god, so he can then redo everything, but he's armed with knowledge he didn't have the first time he went around the loop. Moebius satisfyingly gets a look at the master he's been serving the whole time, as he dies to both Kain and Raziel's swords, on different planes but close enough together in space-time that they can kill him outside of his fated death, he beholds that he's been feeding an eldritch abomination growing itself, not 'the wheel of fate' granting reincarnation. He's literally about to be it's next meal, because Raziel as a wraith is spiritually bound to the elder god until his own death-by-Oroboros seconds later. Kain is no longer effected by anti-vampire weapons, wields a version of the Soul Reaver that didn't exist before, and can see wraith entities like the elder god, which can be hurt by the new sword. It likely doesn't need a second version nearby to change time. The Hylden will still create the Sarafan crusade, but the LoK timeline all the way to Blood Omen 2 can't happen unless they can wrest that sword away from Kain.
