Now that it's been a decade, what went so wrong? This had a great concept, it was Brad Bird dealing with retrofuturistic stuff he likes, it even had Laurie and Clooney; it was supposed to be good.
>>
It spent too much time as a road trip when Tomorrowland was the sizzle. I loved everything about it. Fanfuckingtastic. Even had the Disney heartfelt moments with the android.
>>
probably didn't spent enough time in tomorrow land. they also had a teen girl go up against house. most tech guys were likely siding with house in that case
>>
The lore and meta advertisement with the pin and the secret group that involved famous intellectuals and industrialist was cool. The jet pack scene made no sense. House asked how is this useful? How is a fucking jetpack useful?! How could such a droll man have such authority as to decide what participants should join?

The inflatable safety suit used by the rocketeers seems like it could be useful for motorcyclist.

bump

Good premise, cool idea (I know some people seethed over the Walt Disney secret society of industrialists thing, but no one actually cares), the writing just felt undercooked and like lots got left out
Same problem The Incredibles II had imo

This movie really encapsulates how the Disney company worships the devil. A brilliant scientist is punished by being BRUTALLY murdered in a children's movie because he was RIGHT about humans being beyond saving. The "heroes" replace fact with saccharin delusion literally under penalty of death and that's how the movie ends.

It was a kids movie with a complicated plot. Kids movies need simple plots

Also the central premise of the movie is used as an aesthetic background prop. Like 5 year old kids aren't going to pick up on the retrofuturistic post-modern post-new deal mid-20th century nuanced nostalgia baked into the premise, they just want a hero's journey with jetpacks and an evil villain who isn't morally ambiguous.
