What makes all of their shows not good? There is something about them that makes it almost good but it just isn't and it's really pissing me off because I don't have the words to describe why it's bad.
It's because they forego any sort of episodic structure (beginning, middle, end) for meandering "episodes" that don't go anywhere. It's really basic stuff that nobody can seem to figure out.

A shoddy approach to every aspect of filmmaking, from scriptwriting to filming.

>>215270119Propaganda over entertainment. That’s why. This one wasn’t even hard fren.
>>215270303Nah it's not that, I know what you mean though and I don't like that aspect but it's not a deal breaker to me. It's something that just feels off like artificial vanilla extract.
>>215270119emphasis on casual viewing and prioritizing big named actors. most of their stuff is committee driven projects. Popular actor + popular IP + get writer to throw something together asap.
In design terms; lucid wallpaper.
They don't go for rewatchability. They're fine with disposable if it has a chance to be viral for a period.
>>215270119I've only ever seen Stranger things seasons 1 and 2, the remake season of that comedy movie about being at the camp, and the Arrested Development reboot. All of them are EXTREMELY MEH. There is nothing special about Netflix originals you're just an uncultured zoomer
Wednesday, Lilyhammer, Orange is the New Black, Russian Doll, Marco Polo, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, and Dark Crystal Age of Resistance, were all perfectly fine shows. House of Cards is supposed to be good too but I've never seen it myself. I also legitimately like The Witcher show. They had a few poached series which weren't bad either; the Arrested Development Season 4 was funny, their Longmire seasons were solid, and Last Kingdom was generally good but N-seasons did drop in quality.
>>215270860My bad I thought you said you thought Netflix was good. You're cool zoom zoom
>>215270119Wayward (starring Canadian actress Sarah Gadon) is one of the best shows of all time.
>>215270890There is so little history of "minutes viewed" to compare it to. We need historical minutes viewed to compare to. My guess is Seinfeld is into the Trillions of minutes viewed. (((They))) know streaming ratings are absolutely shit so they made up this retarded "minutes viewed" psyop
>>215270890Wayward was trash, Black Rabbit was decent
>>215270119Their priority is to advance Satan's kingdom, that's why.
>>215270155Disney do this too. Bookend the interesting stuff and just put any old shit inbetween. A shit sandwich, basically (people generally like the bread)
>>215270934they came up with "view minutes" so automatically played trailers would count as "views"
>>215270119lol yeah I don’t know eitherI think they just went for quantity over quality to fill out their library but then never tried to improve the quality. So now they’re stuck with a bunch of mediocre fuckfaces in their stable.Probably making really quality shit that stands the test of time is a thankless task. And Netflix seems too ephemeral for anyone to really pour their heart and soul into it.
>>215270119Well ya see ya got two problems here. One, their series are 8 episodes long. That's it. You get 8 episodes every two years. That's not a good format for watching TV. A "typical" TV series, that is not a procedural, will have 20-to-24 episodes, every year. And that's true even if it IS a procedural, I just mention the distinction because you can watch any episode of a procedural in any order and hardly would want to watch them one after the other; They are all the same. Two, because their series are only 8 episodes long, but each have the budget of a Hollywood movie, you get an 8-to-10 hour long movie. A movie cannot be that long; You are take the beginning, middle, and end, and try to stretch that over that long and you're going to have a bad time. The worst is each episode, being longer than a typical TV show, but still shorter than a movie, you get these weirdly paced and weirdly constructed stories that are doing triple-duty as continuations of the main plot, little movies all on their own, but also trying to cut enough to make them 45-to-60 minutes long. It's a mess.Imagine you were an American and I started a food metaphor right now: You take-a the spaghetti and you-a cook-a the spaghetti, then you try-a to put it in-a the Kraft Dinner box, hot and wet, but-a you don't-a want-a nobody to notice.
>>215270461> emphasis on casual viewing Didn’t it come out that they basically told writers to write shit for people on their phones or doing shit. So everything has to explained for people not paying attention“Look, I’m walking to my car. Here I am picking up the mail”
>>215271356Yes, that did come out in the news.
>>215271062I think the terrible pacing and all the filler is done to reduce costs. I mean it costs the same to produce a scene in a location that is 30 seconds to long and under edited as it does to produce a 10 second scene where everything is well paced
>>215270890You will never convince me that streaming numbers like that aren't 110% bullshit conjured from thin air. According to them, every single god damn show is a record breaking earth shattering once in a lifetime success.
Retarded main characters.
>>215270155Every show follows the one thing you saw?And why should every show be episodic?
This.
>>215271311What's frank looking at?I'm going to assume a really large hot dog.
>>215270890Wayward was awful. It started off interesting and devolved into uninteresting and predictable garbage. Despite Gadon and collette doing a very good performance everything else was borderline silly and outright garbage. There is a scene in the show that is a perfect allusion to the show itself. An errie Toad mysteriously appears croaking at Gadon a little mystery, and interest appears in her eyes. Then she calls it a little fucker and picks it up and throws it in the garbage disposal creating a liquid blend of blood and guts. The writing of the show is just about the same.
Netflix is all about quantity over quality. They need a lot shit to get people to keep renewing their subscription. Maybe out the hundred plus garbage shows they’ll get a Stranger Things. They don’t rely on adverting money so shit that would get horrible ratings on network TV and cancelled survives on Assflix
>>215271411The stats are probably all fake but if they just put the shows they want to do well in autoplay it's almost certain every account will have "watched" the show
>>215271311It's the writers. Recycled writers. It's a problem in film and tv in general. There are a lot of new writers that suck at their job and through nepotism and all other shit still get gigs all over the place and it becomes a nasty feedback loop of the same dog shit writers working on a ton of different projects and genres they have no business working on. Consider when you do have a good s1 of a show. The next season/seasons now have a group of recycled writers that come in that get shopped around all over the place who have no business ever writing in a show like that. You get shitter and shitter quality because the people creating the show suck at their job. It's a writers problem all the way down.
>>215271683Just like every other streaming service and broadcast tv and cable tv.For every Seinfeld there are hundreds of She's the sheriff.
>>215271768Shit has never been the same since the writers strike of like, what, 2010?Also, who is going to be the executive who tells a writer their work is shit and to make it better? You'd probably get sued.
>>215271816>suedLol no. You can't tell writers that their work is shit anymore because they can play six degrees of Kevin Bacon between their rich daddies and (((your))) boss.
>>215271411>>215271555Cope cucks. Sarah Gadon won.
>>215271773Definitely he case for cable tv not so much for broadcast TV. You atleast had to bring in the ratings or they’d cancel your ass mid season. Or be so budget they could use the show full dead periods at night or daytime
>>215270119because netflix exists for the sole purpose of propaganda
>>215271356>>215271379>guy in one thread makes some shit up>guy in a later thread repeats it>a couple years later, it's accepted fact and one anon will remember the time he once read it and other anons will pop up to affirm itIt's wild how many times I've seen this happen for various topics all over the site. A nice reminder of what NPCs are really like.>why yes, that thing you said is true>how do i know?>i hear another sheep say it in the past so it must be true
feels like they make shows for 16 yo girls
They aren't shows. They were made and put before you as a means to shape and influence social and cultural attitudes and behaviors. The same as most commercial advertising too BTWay.
>>215272049Idiot https://www.pcmag.com/news/netflix-is-telling-writers-to-dumb-down-shows-since-viewers-are-on-their
Has it been a steady decline or are there resurgent peaks inbetween nosedives?
>>215270119They purposely make their content compatible with mindless background listening. There are so many people who don't pay attention and just want something on all the time. That limits a lot of the interesting stuff they could do.
>>215271909Show is still shit, which happens to be the only thing I argued as well. Garbage writing.
It's not just them, all streaming services make absolutely dreck
>>215270119They literally design their movies around hype cycles so people will be sort of interested in watching something, but won't ever want to watch it again since actually streaming the movies instead of just making people interested in them cuts into their profits.
>>215270119Because they make their shit only for money
>>215272321>>215272217Not really. Prestige Television productions suffer the same bad writing. They absolutely do not make their shows to be background noise. You're drinking the kool-aid writer cope from criticsm
why does my gf like watching those gook shows
>>215270119good news is that pretty soon you will just take some TV show idea and prompt it with "make it gayer" 5 times in a row and you will have your own similar service.
>>215270119It's intentional. It's for phone-addicted adhd zoomers and millennials.
>>215270119They focus group the crap out of everything until it's perfectly soullessAlso it's all made by women for women which certainly doesn't help
>>215270198KYS, chimo weeb pervert
>>215271311I'm currently watching The Blacklist, which is the opposite; each 42 minute episode has a novel story and enough plot for an entire movie, while also advancing a larger story arc. And over 20 episodes per season. And weird shit like hunting and stuffing people, or renting out harvested organs, or MK Ultra shit... each one resolved by the end. It's like they have stories to spare rather than dragging one story over 6-10 episodes. I've seen maybe one good streaming show per year. I've completely retreated into the past to see all the shit I thought I was too good for when it aired: Burn Notice, 24, The Shield, Vegas, Blacklist, TNG...It mostly beats what's getting released today.
It's crazy how we'll probably never get a decent tv series made for reasonable intelligent adults ever again. Just focus teates AI slop designed to be as gay and stupid as possible
>>215271816Are those dab rig caps or something? They look like they're for weed somehow. Like bumpy, handmade glass marbles. Basically looks like the ends of every glass spoon pipe I ever owned if the stems were facing away. That shit is tripping me out. There are mushroom ones and everything.
>>215271939Don't be such a schizo retard. They're producing what they think people want to see. They're in it for the money.
>>215272990Have no idea. I suspect just decorative glass doodads. Wish the photo was in better focus so I could tell
>>215270119Props and costumes are unfinished by industry standards and the lighting is extremely lazy and amateurish. S2 of Wednesday is particularly bad about this.
>>215272990>Like bumpy, handmade glass marbles. That's literally what they are, ya cooked cunt.
>>215270934once you understand those sharts are made for investors you stop being angered by them
>>215273033Then they're pointless and irrational. Marbles are for shooting. They must roll so they can strike each other and eject the circle on the ground. Those are useless. And they're too big to be counters for Magic card life points or some D&D type shit. They're definitely not marbles.
>>215270155They are/were typically designed to binge and not require the usual syndicated/wrapped up formula. The down side is that idiots got over indulgent/lenient on episodes that spin the wheels on nothing burgers because the funding is given at the start before a full script. So they've got a budget and episode count requirement but the idea is so fucking thin they pad for time.
>>215272940With Blacklist it's almost like they bought up a bunch of hacky, failed movie script ideas and whittled them down to episodic length. Or the writers were just really prolific with ideas. I don't see how they can possibly sustain ten seasons of it.
